MY FIRST BUSINESS EXPERIENCE
I was 18 when I thought I could build a multi-million Business. I was an average student all my life. All I always wanted was to do business. My parents were confused why I never wanted to be a doctor or why I didn't pick intrest in Law or any other cooperate job. This was a pressure on it own.
"Go to school and get good grades" these were the words of my parents. They wouldn't want to invest in a child who doesn't want to do so well in academics.
I made it a duty to have both; please my parents and also please myself, more reason why academic wise, I'm average. I read to pass and that is all I am concerned about.
After my 18th year birthday. My parents are easy to tickle you with the conciousness that you are already becoming a man so you should plan ahead.
I went to own a skill "A graphic design skill" which I hated for sometime before I finally developed affections for it.
I was watching a TV program when I came across a celebrity's son who had to model for a top notch brand.
He was too young for this I said with anger erupting out of me. I felt he had the platform because his parents could make the call.
I felt brands shouldn't be too clingy to celebrities like they own the earth but that is the way it is and I am sure that is how it will always be.
With that anger I decided I was going to train and mentor young models who desire to be popular but don't have the platform and enough resources to getting their desires.
This was me who just concluded Secondary schooling.
I took a day or two to draft out a plan, with my graphical skills I wrote out a proposal, a letter to secure investments and a business plan. I did all of that in Just 2nights.
I was driven by anger and passion. A week after I set up a team of 5 including me to support the project. We distributed the letters around, submitted the proposals to places that seems fruitful and set out with a flyer to call in young aged make and females who intend to venture into modelling.
We were able to get a few models. Every of the letter didn't yield any quality response, the proposal didn't produce funds.
I was left with nothing, no money, no connection, just a brain with an idea.
I realized I needed a training room, I needed photography gadgets, I needed cloths and accessories, I needed tutors. The headache was much and I couldn't really bare the burden much.
I decided I needed to speak to everyone I could speak with. I went to a make-up artist who will be in charge of beautifying the faces of the model. I made a deal to attract a free service, I did the same to acquire a studio, I did the same to acquire a photographer.
With my communication skill I was able to secure 70% of all I needed for FREE. It felt like an archivements until after taking the first round of picture.
Then I asked myself, What next?
To cut the story short, the business failed and it failed due to many reasons. I will list just two of it.
1 I created a business that isn't needed:
Business isn't much about selling and buying, it is understanding what a set of audience need and providing it in the best possible way. I didn't know that, I just created what I felt was right.
2. I had a lot of incompetent hands :
I and 4 other friends were incompetent. None of us knew about business,we haven't read a book on business before, never read an article on business before, never attended a business class before, don't know what sales or marketing is, we didn't even have a skill. I was the only one with the graphic design skill.
Incompetent hands can't run a business, they can only run it down. (Ayegbusi Temitope)
This is just a little summary about my first Business experience. I hope you learn one or two things from it.

Mistakes are only normal when we are taking the first business step but learning from those mistakes and moving forward is extremely important. I have had my own fair share of terrible business experiences and I can't wait to share them as well.
Wow, I would say even though the business failed it wasn't a wasted effort because there was a lesson learned from it all plus the experience gotten as well.
I am hit by your words, incompetent hands can't run a business, but only to run it down.. well said brother.
Thank you boss
