Garden Update: Bonsai Okra Seedlings Have Finally Sprouted!!!!

In my previous posts, I have mentioned my hope of germinating more bonsai okra at home. It's because our home garden requires us to plant in pots, but regular okra grows really tall and it would be quite difficult to actually grow them in pots.

Sure, the seeds from the regular okra which I tried to germinate has been growing well and we're planning to replant them. However, I still wanted to wait for the bonsai okra to sprout.

Last time I did it, there was just one okra which sprouted. Now, it's already starting to get itself ready to produce some flowers and later on, okra itself.

This is now what the sole okra survivor I was able to germinate before looks like. It would just stay this tall or maybe just grow a couple more inches, so it's perfect for our small garden.

Last month, I was able to gather some seeds from a bonsai okra vegetable which I purposely left to wilt or wither.

I'm about to open this withered okra.

I don't know the exact timing, but if you leave it to wither longer, the seeds would no longer be usable. In this okra's case, some are still good, while others are not.

I separated the ones that are not usable and the ones that might still grow.

In the past, I usually just plant them directly. But in this case, I tried cracking them a bit open. When I did, some of them contains some kind of tiny leaf inside... so I planted those.

Last Sunday, I saw tiny sprouts growing from the soil and I recognize them as the bonsai okra seeds that I planted last time. I didn't take a photo then, but I did the day after. :)

I took this photo last Monday, and three of them already got rid of the seed's shell. :)

And this is the photo I took this morning. More sprouts are visible, and it made me really happy!

I may keep a couple regular okra seedlings to grow at home, but the other ones would be replanted in the community garden. I guess it's much better to keep the bonsai okra at home given the limited space we have.

I'm just excited to see more progress in the coming days! I'll update again soon! Thanks for reading! (^^,)/
