ASEAN Hive Community Challenge #75: How Do You Stay Active?
Hello friends... :)
It's time to do another ASEAN Hive Community Challenge! Although I was forbidden to be in the winner's circle last time, I'm very free to submit an entry. So, I'm happy. xDD haha
Anyway, for this week's challenge, we are to answer the question, "How Do You Stay Active?".
Staying active is kind of a challenge for me because I'm quite busy with work and other stuff, but I know how important it is for our health, so I try my best to do some activities.
I teach students online, so I'm mostly in front of my PC. In the past, I used to work straight hours, but this style is hurting my back, so I decided to take a break in between 2-3 lessons. This way, I could stand up and stretch. So far, my condition has been so much better than before.
Another problem I had in the past was my insomnia. In those days, I usually fall asleep at around four in the morning... in worse days, I'm still awake at six. There were times when I felt like crying because of headache and worry since I'd have to work in just a few hours, but I haven't gotten even a few minutes of sleep.
This situation changed, though. It all started around November of last year when my bestie challenged me to exercise. The main reason for this was that she didn't want to do it alone, so even though we were in the opposite sides of the world, we updated each other about it.
Upon doing this, I noticed that it was much easier for me to sleep... maybe because I was physically tired, but I took the opportunity and changed my body clock. Now, I sleep at around midnight. Well, 1-2 o'clock would be the latest, but this is because of anime and manga or some mobile games. haha And I wake up around seven or eight in the morning. Having 6-7 hours of sleep is what I need to feel fully rested, more than that makes me tired.
Now, what are the exercises/activities that I do?
I usually ride the stationary bicycle. Before, I used to do it at night after my classes, but recently, I decided to do it in the morning due to some circumstances. It's not very hot these days because it's the rainy season, so it's all good. During the dog days of summer in the Philippines (around April and May), I do it at night... but when it's too hot, I skip! haha
Also, playing with Arashi is an interesting activity for me. We used to play inside the house, but since our front yard was fixed in preparation for the rainy season, we could enjoy playing there.
This space in front of our house is where we enjoy some activities together. We do it almost every day when it's not rainy, otherwise, we stay inside and just dance some zumba while watching YouTube or just dance to various music on Spotify. :)
In between my cycles (using the stationary bicycle), I also do some jump ropes. I can't do much for now, but I try to do 10 minutes cycle, 5 minutes jump and another 10 minutes cycle. I'd do more when it's my day off. :) The space in front of our house which I showed earlier is also my jumping rope space. I have a much wider space now compared to in the past. :)
We also have these babies at home, but I haven't used them recently. I usually just focus on cardio, but I'll get back to these someday... at least when I have more time to spare.
My old battered and smiling shoes... which I use for cycling and jumping rope at home.
Shoes papa bought me last month...
For a month now, papa and I have been consistent with our Wednesday Walks, too. We used to go for a walk or jog before the pandemic happened, but we didn't do it until last month. At least once a week, we could go out for a walk or jog.
It's a nice change of place for me who is usually just in the four corners of my room. I could exercise and see the beautiful views in our area. It's a great opportunity for me and motivation as well. I'd only have a couple hours of sleep since I'd have to wake up at around 4:30 for it, but I usually go back to bed for another couple hours before I start with work. ;)
Lastly, these babies also keeps me active. I tend to check on them every morning, but the most physically challenging part would be planting and replanting. We don't have to do that these days, though... but soon, we'd get back to it.
For now, mama is in charge of watering them, so it's also her exercise. Apart from the garden, doing the household chores in the morning and on my days off is also an additional way for me to stay active... though I'd rather exercise than do the chores. (Please don't tell my mama... shhhhh)
And yeah, that's it. :) Thanks for checking this post out. See you next time! (^^,)/

Hey, @tegoshei, I want to see you dancing the Zumba. Nice entry, dear. The breed and colour of your dog are like ours.
Thanks... :)
ohh really? that's cool... ^^
Yes, but he was gone several years heretofore.
That's some serious iron you're pumping. I miss teaching a bit, trying to get a webcam replacement at the moment so I can start advertising my services again. I used to struggle with insomnia, still do on and off, and one of the best pieces of advices a doctor gave me was very simple but effective. He told me the bed is for sleeping and romance, and nothing else. With this advice I stopped relaxing in bed, using my phone in bed, and basically anything that wasn't either of the two.
Also, exercise, as you pointed out, is/was very helpful in helping me fall asleep quickly and stay asleep. The doc told me that if I find myself laying in bed for more than 15 minutes without falling asleep, that I should leave the bed and do something else until I feel tired enough for bed. I still battle insomnia, but when I follow these simple rules, it's so much more manageable.
