Splinterlands Reaching Out To Millions

(Edited)

We are seeing the reach of Hive beginning to expand. This is a wonderful step in the evolution and one that is likely to yield some dividends.

Splinterlands, probably the most popular application on Hive and one of the most used DApps in the blockchain world, is going to be featured on the American Movie Channel. This station has a potential reach of 95 million households in 200 different United States markets.

Here is the stage we were waiting for. It really is no great surprise that Splinterlands is the first to reach it. The last few years saw a lot of development but very little marketing. This is in direct contrast to the approach Charlie Lee took with Litecoin where he stopped developing and started marketing, something he admitted was a mistake.

Splinterlands got their development to the point where the product is now marketable to the masses. This brings us to the on-boarding stage where the team wants to increase the user base.

AMC might seem like an odd choice for a new technology but they do have a technology platform on their Newswatchtv site.

This is only the first step in the process. Along with having 90 second video coverage talking about the game, there are other campaigns that are meant to drive traffic to Splinterlands. The total guarantee is a couple million impressions from the social media campaigns put together.

To me, this signifies a major transition in our evolution. It would be great if 20 projects were at the same point but, hey, you have to start somewhere. Splinterlands attained their development goals and now are seeking to rapidly expand their users. This means reaching outside the present cryptocurrency world to try to attract newer individuals.

Since it offers something unique, the ability to truly own your assets from a game, it should be able to make some headway. It is also getting the name out there which is vital.

I view the entire process as building blocks. While things can happen rapidly in the online world, the norm tends to be a slow grind for a period of time. It can take years to become an overnight sensation.

Unfortunately, there are pieces that need to be put in place before proceeding forward. This often requires a ton of development without a great deal to show for the effort. On Hive, we see that since many left the platform. However, over the last two years, development kept forging ahead regardless of what the users were doing. Splinterlands is the epitome of this.

Great marketing can sink an unprepared company. Everyone wants the eyeballs but if the product is lacking, it will only hasten the decline. It is obvious Splinterlands is to the point where the product is something that will have broad appeal to those who are into those types of games.

Other projects are moving forward too. This is where I feel we will get the exponential explosion at some point. With Hive, all the eggs are not in one basket. There is a wide range of applications that are still developing in an effort to massively improve their offering. Once they start reaching out in a bigger way, the entire platform will feel the impact.

@jarvie had a valid point in the comment section of the linked article. The fact that Splinterlands is appearing on an AMC platform gives them the opportunity to use that. This adds validity to the application in its marketing efforts. Other entities see that and start to gain interest. After all, if something appeared on NBC, then ABC might have an interest.

The key for massive growth is to keep having Hive put in front of millions of people. Each effort that achieves this might pull in a few thousand. The fascinating thing is, as this shows, they will be seeing Hive without even realizing (or caring). Splinterlands is all they will know about and that will be the initial attraction.

Over time, as more projects are reaching out, we will only see this grow. And there will come a day when the first person will see an application of interest, go to use it, only to realize he or she already had an account via another application.

That is one of Hive's major advantage: one account can access all on the blockchain.

On another note, a well known Libertarian media personality, John Stossel, told his followers why he invested in Bitcoin. This story caught my attention because it really does help in the acceptance of cryptocurrency. We all know the impact celebrities have on the general public (which is sad in many ways but it is how it is). Stossel drives home the point about the threat of collapse of the U.S. Dollar and getting involved in Bitcoin as a hedge against that.

Once again, we are seeing a potential million person hit with this since Stossel have over a million followers on Twitter. It is great exposure for Bitcoin, and cryptocurrency, in general. Marketing 101 is repetition and actions like this keep promoting the ideal of alternative digital assets to the masses.

At this point, the political persuasion of the individual matters little. Promotion is what is needed and this helps to target his following. I hope that people from all over the political spectrum follow suit.

A lot of good things happening in the world of cryptocurrency. There is a lot going on that can fly under the radar but progress is being made.

We just have to be a bit patient while everything unfolds.

Really great to see Splinterlands pushing forward against opposing forces at times and serves as a great model for persistence and having a documented plan.

Without a doubt. Splinterlands is providing a template for others to follow.

It is a successful game that is moving onto the next phase.

I had a meeting this morning with the IT guy at our local library (very small community in Ontario). During our conversation I started talking to him about Steem ... he looked at me and went 'oh the gaming platform'.. I said "do you mean the gaming platform or Splinterlands".. his response was he'd seen that somewhere recently.

It obviously made enough impression on him that he remembered it even if he wasn't sure what it was. We talked further and he's asked me to send him more information.

It was a pretty cool response when normally in this community people are very disinterested and have no idea what crypto is let alone Steem.

Upvoted, keep doing the good job! We are all invested into the success of Hive, in the end, isn't it? God knows how many posts about Splinterlands I did every week on various platforms in the last 2 years.
