Jumping Off A Cliff
I've always been a dreamer since I was young, daydreaming has been with me for the most part of my life. Now, I've learnt to reduced it to a bare minimum since reality has sip almost all the water in the cup of dreams.
However, it seems that dreams that are unlikely are now becoming a reality. Thanks to the collective imagination of humanity and the relentless pursuit of innovation. Who knows, maybe, we will reach a day where anything is possible.
The Perceived Reality
When it comes to work or the ability to put food on the table or roof over our head, the reality hasn't changed much over a century. Work is seen as a sort of necessary evil that must be done five to six times a week eight hours a day. There was little to no alternative to avoid this traditional route so people succumb to it hoping that a few decades later they will be able to retire and do whatever they want to do.
However, by that time, dreams are long dead, buried in the deep recess of our minds. I've met with retired individuals on few occasions and what I realize is that many of them seem to have withdrawn from life after their retirement, like calling it a day in the afternoon when sunset hasn't come yet.
So much of an attachment to a version of reality that life feels hopeless when we're done with it. No wonder we cling to it still to this day. Why do we think that jumping off a cliff means impending death?
The Dream Becoming A Reality
The modern generation have been called a lot of names for their unconventional and almost unethical approach to life. A lecturer of mine called them 'stupidly aggressive to an unfounded cause'. I might be wrong but I think the volatility in this world has reached another all time high in this modern era. Like the heat has been increased to a considerable amount.
Friedrich Nietzsche said one must have chaos within oneself to give birth to a shining star. Maybe the shining star is in the making in the current condition of the world and it will become apparent in the future.
Now, in regards to work, it's nature is changing. It is no longer confined to certain parameters and criteria. There are many people who have been able to monetize their hobbies. The average millionaire is no longer an old looking person. People are able to work from almost anywhere in the world.
Which is what prompted me to write this post. I have to visit a friend today and it dawned on me that I could well be doing my work over there but I decided against it. Because, I'll probably not be able to connect to a 'work mode' while being there. That's why I'm doing the work now.
Do you realise that all of this was just a dream few decades ago?? Yet people still don't want to jump off that cliff and explore the unknown.
