Autumn Walk to The Big Textile Show: October 29 2022
Ramsgate, from the top of Madeira Walk, looking towards Pegwell Bay.
It was a lovely, mild autumn day yesterday, wonderfully sunny. The Big Textile Show was taking place at the Race-course, the first time since the pandemic.
I hadn't planned to go, I have already planned other purchases and there weren't any vendors I especially wanted to see. The exhibitions are always beautiful and fun to catch up with people, but I thought £15 entry fee was a little steep.
I noticed Stashbusters listed: you can donate unwanted craft items and they do something with them for charity. What a great idea: we've all got things lurking in boxes under the bed or at the back of cupboards that we are never going to finish or use.
I'd already filled a small suitcase of dress fabrics I wanted to give away. I was thinking they could go to a local textile group, but this was a better idea - they were inviting donations. Wonderful.
I set off about 3pm, trundling my case behind me. It was glorious to be out and I was trying to calculate how much Vitamin D I was processing and how long I needed to be outside to get an adequate dose (about 45 minutes I reckoned).
I passed some friends on the way, they'd been there since the morning and were making their way home after a busy day. Also several runners - I wondered if there was a footpath nearby that created a circular route.
Well, consternation at the reception. They wanted to charge me £15 with only an hour to go! Not that I was going in anyway. Putting my indignant self to one side, I said:
I had an email.
It said I could leave a donation at reception.
From Tony.
Well, dear reader, they fell at the final blow, for it was Tony telling me I must pay £15!
All resistance beaten, I unpacked the contents of my case into a sturdy black bag and handed it over. Job done, no money spent and steps into the bargain.
It was a lot easier trundling home with an empty case.
