My Actifit Report Card: October 10 2022

Knoll House, a local stately pile for an affluent family. Built early twentieth century, mock Tudor style. Falling down and may be sold.

A beautiful, mild sunny day and lovely evening, I could hardly resist the siren call. Several people in the Garden, all walking purposefully, like they had a right to be there.

A bird called when I was on the terrace of Southmeade, reminding me of some other happy time. The little gate painted green and marked Private was open and I crept through to see what was there. It led to the back garden of the Lodge at the gateway of Hastings House, overgrown and with a bramble snaking across the lawn, a forlorn peg on the washing line.

Cathay Quinces on the terrace of Southmeade House. A member of the apple family, they are very hard when they are raw, but beautifully fragranced. They soften on (lengthy) cooking, but the plant label says they are unlikely to become one of your five a day.

The Giant Redwood against a mid-October sunset. I found a shortcut through the student residences from the Garden to the Sports Ground, avoiding walking along the busy road. Useful for another time.

Music was blaring from a white car as I approached the exit. It screamed away up the road as I appeared, leaving fast food debris on the pavement. I wish I had been quick enough to catch their number, and had a way to find out where the car was registered, then I'd gather up their rubbish and take it round and say, "You lost something but it's okay, I found it".
