Amongst the blessings of civilization are means of providing security. Secure folks do not suffer their stuff to be taken. I recommend providing yourself such means so that you can prosper to the limit of your abilities. From the FGC-9 to microwave moats, individuals today are better able to secure their stuff than anyone before in history.
There are bad people. Do what is necessary to be secure from them.
That's just totally unattached to the realities, this isn't the old west we live in anymore where the chances of running across predators has increased millions fold. No thanks I'd rather not have to live with a gun strapped to my side just to get in and out of my house safely unless I absolutely would have to. I am not going to be favorable to having to live with a shotgun by my side inside my house either, thousands fold more worried about every little noise. Adam Korkesh did a on street interview one time, he asked a guy what he thought about doing away with all government. He told Korkesh you see all these bums laying around, the only thing keeping them in line is the fear of the cops. He thought Korkesh lost his mind.
Well, I've lived several places where folks open carried commonly. No muggings, rapes, or robberies at all. An armed society is a polite society. I'm a lot more worried about cops than bums. If you think cops can protect you from one of those bums with a wild hair up their ass, you've lost your mind. They'll come and scrape your remnants up or take your report, and that's about it. Life isn't like 'Die Hard', where cops are actually interacting with criminals during the commission of a crime. They only show up after crimes have been committed - if at all.
You're only as safe as you keep you.
It's the deterrent factor that keeps that ratio low. Carrying a gun will also but it also increases the chances of being accidently shot. I know you'll probably say that chance is low but so is my chance of being robbed, raped by a homeless person with the cops around.
