sony a7m4 vs. sony a7c

When you bought your a7c for the first time, it was like experiencing a whole new world. Compared to the ZV-1 or E10, which were first used in Sony devices, the resolution was much better and the anti-vibration was stable. So I quickly (?) bought another a7c and shot with two of them. However, as I got used to the Sony body, I gradually looked at the top model. I even looked at the FX-3 film camera, but switched my attention to the Sony A7M4 (Sony A7 IV) device. After much consideration, I decided to try renting.

I wouldn't know if I hadn't tried it, but I didn't want to go back to the a7c again. And the day I returned the rental device, I searched the entire inventory nationwide, paid full price, and bought the a7m4 from Sony's offline shop.

First of all, a7m4 is intuitive from the menu. As a Leica user, I have never really set up a menu in the first place. That's because there is no reason to touch the menu if you just operate everything manually. By the way, the Sony menu is really complicated. It took me a long time to get used to the a7c menu. If you don't use it often, you forget it.

By the way, the a7m4 menu is very simple. Can you express a complicated menu in such a simple way?

And you can assign any button to a custom function, so if you set up the function you want beforehand, you don't have to re-enter the menu.

The a7m4 also has a very strong image stabilisation. It is possible to shoot more steadily handheld than with the a7c. It is even possible to walk slowly but not fast!

There is also a big difference in size/weight. The a7c doesn't feel too heavy when placed on the gimbal, but the a7m4 is quite heavy when placed on the gimbal. So I plan on not putting it on the gimbal. If it wasn't for the lightweight gimbal I use, I would have upgraded the existing a7c to the a7m4. However, I decided to keep the a7c for the gimbal.

What about the a7c vs a7m4 image?

The image quality of the two cameras is different. The a7c is 24mp and the a7m4 is 33mp. Other than that, I still didn't notice a big difference in the results. Of course, because the pixel is bigger, the correction latitude is a bit higher
on the a7m4 and the result feels more detailed. Still, it's not at the level where you can feel the difference at first glance.

However, there is a big difference in terms of the user experience when taking pictures. Compared to the Sony a7c, the EVF of the a7m4 is very good, so you can shoot comfortably. In addition, the a7m4 has a joystick that focuses on the back (a7c requires touching the screen).

So who should choose the a7m4 over the a7c?

So who should choose a7m4 among those who are thinking about a7c and a7m4?

● Those who want to shoot with sLog3 and do colour grading (a7m4 can shoot up to 4K 10Bit 24p!)

● People who do a lot of handheld video shooting and need to minimise shake.

Those who want to take photos as well as videos (thanks to the joystick on the back, the photo-taking experience is also convenient)!

I am.

For other purposes, the a7c is also an excellent choice.

So, I will end this article by presenting some pictures taken with the Sony a7m4.

Photos recorded with Sony a7m4

Both cameras are excellent choices, choosing the one that best suits your needs and style of photography will depend on a number of factors.

Both the Sony A7M4 and A7C offer exceptional image quality thanks to their 24 megapixel full-frame sensor. The A7M4 has a higher continuous shooting speed at 10 frames per second compared to the A7C's 10 frames per second, but in practical terms this speed difference is negligible for most amateur photographers.
