Golem Overlord Smashes Farm Accounts

A few weeks ago, I've been lingering around various Hive-related Discord servers reading through random chats and suddenly caught wind of this new upcoming game called Golem Overlord. I was lucky enough to register a few of my accounts on the launch day and got the Ancient Golemancer title, which I hope is going to give a bonus effect soon.

Now, I know the usual play-to-earn model has a very short lifespan with a cycle of launch, hype, peak, and then the inevitable fall to obscurity. One of the biggest successes for me is Cryptoblades, a Binance Smart Chain NFT game, where I entered early and was able to multiply my investment. The rest were not so successful for me and I had experienced some significant losses through market dumps and outright rugpull projects.

And with the mindset of I need to reap rewards as fast as I can, I did make a sizeable return on my investment by immediately selling the Part tokens I got. While many players liquidate some Splinterlands assets in order to fund GO accounts, I was doing the opposite and turning some of my profits into Splinterlands cards as I was still lacking a few components for a rent-free Silver deck.

The biggest difference between Golem Overlord and other play-to-earn projects I've seen so far is the fast-paced development of the game. In a matter of a few weeks, the game has made numerous fixes and balances. The one that caught me unaware was the sudden implementation of a steep penalty for users who do not reinvest back into the game 75% of the Part tokens that they claimed.

Well, it serves me right for rushing to take profits out. 😆 But now I've restored my main account back to 100% rating and I'm in the process of rebuilding my other accounts slowly, which I found to be an oddly satisfying task to do.

A Simple Game with Great Potential

Golem Overlord is a very simple idle-clicker game that takes just a few minutes to do every day. But what baffles me is that I enjoy every moment I spend in the game. From shuffling through my accounts repeatedly to looking at my stats and calculating the best step, there's something appealing about it. The clean and simple interface might be a factor but there's also the excitement of what's the next new change that will come.

And to think that it's not even a month since going live, there's still a lot to look forward to. The newly implemented penalty system has also crushed many farm accounts which will have a positive impact in balancing the game economy. It's still far from being sustainable but the game developer, Yixn, has done a great job of addressing issues and concerns of the community.

Play-to-earn games like Golem Overlord often attract thousands of users. These people are willing to bend over backwards and deal with the slightly complicated task of entering the Hive ecosystem if they deem the project worthy. If the Part token retains its value or even increases, it will gain attention and this could potentially grow the player base to tens of thousands of users, fingers crossed.
