COIN REVEAL: 1986 .9167 $200 Uncirculated Gold Koala Carded Coin
Today's coin reveal post features the 1986 .9167 $200 Uncirculated Gold Koala Carded Coin struck by the Royal Australian Mint.
1. Coin Story
The 22 karat (.9167) $200 Uncirculated Gold Koala coins were very popular when they were issued in the 1980's by the Royal Australian Mint. There were a large number of these coins issued and there is a very healthy secondary market that exists today for these coins. On the secondary market these coins tend to sell for just above the spot price.
This specific coin is a little more unique as it is presented in a card, with key information about the coin. Although the addition of the the card will not increase its premium drastically, it should increase the premium a bit more above spot that the non-carded versions of the koala coin.
This coin is part of my keeper stack, so I have no intention of selling it, hence why I do not know exactly what its current secondary market price is.
I do have other coins like this that are not carded. I have not sold any of those yet either, however if the need ever arose, those ones would be sold well before I ever considered parting with this coin.
2. Coin Packaging
The coin is packaged in an individual cardboard sleeve. The coin itself is house and protected in a card that opens up and provides the key information about the coin.

4. Coin Design
a. Reverse Design
The reverse of the coin depicts an adult koala perched in a eucalyptus tree, looking into the distance.
The design includes an inscription 'TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS'.
a. Obverse Design
The obverse of the coin portrays the effigy of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The inscriptions of 'ELIZABETH II', 'AUSTRALIA' and the year of issue '1986'
