HBD: should we find a new peg (HBS...)?

Most of us here are big fans of HBD.

What's not to like about a 20% annual interest rate?! And fee-free transactions?

However, one key downside for HBD is the fact that it's pegged to the US Dollar.

As we know, HBD promises to convert into one US dollar's worth of Hive.

This is all well and good under normal conditions; however, with rampant money printing and spiralling debt comes huge global currency risk. Currencies across the world are being debased. This includes the US$ which is losing purchasing power on a daily basis.

On this basis, what should we peg HBD to instead? What other currency will not and cannot be debased? Which other currency has a fixed supply...? 🤔

You know where I'm going with this - wouldn't a more appropriate peg be to BTC?

Admittedly, we'd have to go ahead and use the latest US Dollar value to identify the correct number of satoshis but, the sooner we do it, the more value we capture before the dollar crumbles further...

Right now, $1 is worth 0.000033469929694739183 satoshis, so if HBD was pegged to this value then we could have more confidence that we're holding value in HBD both now and for the future - either when we convert into Hive or when we use HBD for transactions.

Oh, and if we went ahead and made these changes, we might have to change HBD's name from Hive Backed Dollars (HBD) to Hive Backed Satoshis (HBS)...!

PS I think some would have a strong argument that BTC is still finding it's ($) price stability so it may still be early in the day for this change but I think we should start kicking off the debate now.
