Conociendo la Quinta de Bolívar en Bogotá / Getting to know Bolivar's house in Bogota
Hello, in our new tourist adventure, we went to visit a very significant site full of history, nothing more and nothing less than the Quinta de Bolivar.
La Quinta de Bolivar is a house, which was the home of Simon Bolivar during his stays in Bogota, this house today is a museum, which preserves many belongings of our liberator, so here we are going to...
We started our day having breakfast with Tamales, which is a typical food of the city and that really resembles the Venezuelan hallacas, with its marked differences as in the form and that the dough is not only corn flour but also contains rice.
It was filled with chickpeas, pork, beef and chicken, it was medium sized and despite not being my favorite type of food, I must admit it was tasty and I ate it all.
After breakfast we already had the necessary strength to start our walk and as first stop we had the Basilica of Our Lady of Lourdes, a catholic church with a very nice structure, inside it has a columbarium (a special area to keep the urns with the ashes of those who have died), this part is quite large, it is like a maze, everywhere you look you will find walls full of spaces properly distributed, with the data of the people who deposited their ashes there; This place is a place with an incredible energetic charge, you feel a lot of energies at the moment you take your first step in the place, I can even say that I felt the sadness of those who mourn their loved ones there. Out of respect for the dead and their families in this place I did not take pictures, only at the entrance of the church.
Now it is time to get to know the house of our liberator.
The entrance fee for adults is 4,000 Colombian pesos, which is a little more than one U.S. dollar, and can be purchased at the entrance.
As soon as we entered the property we could see that the entrance pathway has some striking "ornaments" on its floors, which we were told were vertebrae, parts of bone from the spine of cattle, which I assume were killed or died for consumption and these bones decided to use them as decoration, too crazy right, well I must admit that it took me quite a while to overcome this information.
During the tour of the house, you could see several perfectly furnished rooms, it is incredible to know that these things have so many years, you can perfectly imagine Bolivar playing with his fellow fighters or Manuelita Saenz drinking tea and sharing with her friends.
The kitchen and pantry are spacious and the dining area, ideal for a good feast, I imagine the good dinners and meals that were shared there.
In the house there is a room located very close to the liberator's room, which belongs to a slave of Bolivar's family, who swore to take care of Bolivar after the death of his mother and so he did until the end of his days, which is why he had a very special place in the house and was always close to the liberator.
Bolivar's room, elegant and imposing, worthy of the Liberator. It has always been said that Bolivar was a man of short stature and the size of his bed seems to confirm this. At the foot of his bed rests a replica of his sword, which he used in many battles.
At the back of the house, behind one of its gardens, there is a more modern space, which is also a museum and contains an interactive part, so that visitors can capture the place where they come from.
Back at the house, this is quite a spacious place, more than in structure, in its gardens, walking them with my friends, I joked that if Bolivar and Manuelita Saenz argued, they could easily get lost in the gardens and not have to talk to each other for the rest of the day 😂.
In these immense gardens I am talking about, you will find various types of plants, stables and even a swimming pool.
Inside the house, there is also a very special part, a monument to Bolivar, with all the flags and coats of arms of the countries he liberated.

And finally we were able to observe the great tree of the American fraternity, this seemed to me super cool, which was planted in 1946 and contains soil from 15 countries, such as Bolivia, Brazil, Cuba, Costa Rica, Chile, United States, Ecuador, Haiti, Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, Santo Domingo, Venezuela and Puerto Rico: Bolivia, Brazil, Cuba, Costa Rica, Chile, United States, Ecuador, Haiti, Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, Santo Domingo, Venezuela and Puerto Rico.*
Por deterioro hay algunos lugares de la casa por los cuales no se puede transitar, cosa que me dio un poco de tristeza.
Due to deterioration, there are some places in the house that cannot be walked through, which made me a little sad.
Debo confesarles que visitar este sitio y recordar un poco de la historia de Bolívar me hizo llenar de mucho orgullo, pues no solo era un hombre que logró muchísimas cosas buenas, sino que era Venezolano.
I must confess that visiting this site and remembering a little of Bolivar's history made me very proud, because not only was he a man who achieved many good things, but he was also Venezuelan.Ahora sí, hasta aquí llegó el corrido del día de hoy, muchas gracias por acompañarme a revivir esta experiencia a través de los recuerdos y las fotos plasmadas en este post, un abrazo cargado de las mejores vibras!
