Despite all the downtrends in the crypto-world, Splinterlands reached quite a big achievement recently. More than 5 MILLION USD rewards are paid to participants of Splinterlands tournaments. This is quite impressive if you ask me. At the moment there's also over $20.000 of rewards in upcoming tournaments.

In October we reached the milestone of 1 million usd paid out, so the prizes from tournaments are growing quite rapidly! If you want to try your luck and get your part of the pie, you can start playing Splinterlands here.

Types of tournaments

Anytime Tournaments
These tournaments are the most popular style of Splinterlands tournament. They allow players to select and submit their teams whenever is convenient for them. Depending on how many players are involved in the tournament, there are a set number of rounds. During each round of the tournament, each player submits the required number of battles. Then when the round is over and all battles have been submitted, tournament players are ranked based on the results and a certain portion of players go on to the next round.

To participate in an anytime tournament, you must be registered for the tournament by its scheduled starting time. Battles not submitted are automatically counted as losses.

Live Tournaments
Live tournaments are original-style Splinterlands tournaments based on elimination and bracketing. These can be hosted through the official Splinterlands tournament interface or externally using the Challenge option and organized manually or through a third-party site.

For live tournaments, players must not only be registered but checked in prior to the start of the event to be eligible to participate. In some cases, there are additional requirements, such as completion of a prerequisite or presence in a designated Discord server.

Sit-and-Go Tournaments
In Sit-and-Go Splinterlands tournaments, the tournament begins once the target number of players has been reached. Each player generally contributes an entry fee in Dark Energy Crystals which comprises the prize pool, then a portion of the top places split the prize pool when the tournament ends. These tournaments are typically for a small number of players and do not last long.

Rules

Another important parameter to understand in events are the rules. Within rules there are three factors to consider if a player wants to participate with the cards they have in their collection. The three factors are:

  • Event League
  • Regular and/or Gold Cards
  • Edition of Cards

Its pretty straight forward with these factors. Lets take a example event:

In the event listed above all participants are limited to the use of Silver League card levels. In addition all cards of the Chaos legion packs may be used. In other cases it could be only Untamed cards are allowed and so forth. With these factors set in place for each event it provides players an idea of what they can potentially do well in while others they may not want to partake due to lack of enough cards to fit the event's factors.

Conclusion

Participating in Splinterlands tournaments can give you some nice rewards when you have the cards to battle with the top players. Ofcourse it won't be that easy to win, but always remember: Practise makes perfect!

About me

image.png

I am a person who discovered the Hive community in December 2021. I was looking for a new cardgame to play and eventually earn something in. After some research I discovered Splinterlands. Splinterlands is an innovative addition to the play-to-earn games in the NFT world. Previously known as Steem Monsters, the game operates on the Hive blockchain and belongs to the trading game genre. In Splinterlands, players fight against monsters to get in-game rewards.

I decided to pay the $10 after playing some matches for free. 10 bucks for a computergame seemed fair for me. At the moment I'm trying to build out my carddeck by playing the game and participating in the community. At the moment of writing, my $10 became worth about a multiple!

Thank you for sharing the tournament information and specifics with us Stekene.
I would like to add that although having many cards makes it easier to win - in my opinion playing by the ruleset is still the most important factor and then comes the collection.
