Still on the hunt for guitar picks

avatar
(Edited)

I have posted a few times about how I collect guitar picks (or plectrums if you prefer). I am just doing this for fun as they make a nice decoration stuck along my shelves above my desk. I would love to have some that have been used by famous players, but those can fetch serious money. I saw a collection being sold on ebay for $9000! There is a group called Pick Collectors Against Cancer who auction some off, but they are also out of my price range, although I have bought some special editions from them.

I am just into getting more different picks and they can be cheap or even free as promotional items. I will show some I have as examples.

These are most of my Dunlop picks. They make a huge range of styles.

Dunlops

These are some of my novelty picks. Lots of guitar companies and shops will have some with their brand. I picked up a load at guitar shows. Others are sold as souvenirs. One of the Beatles picks came from Hamburg (thanks @stav) and the other from Liverpool. The Ganesh elephant was found in a charity shop.

Novelties

I have quite a few and many of those were sent to me by people around the world. I will pay $HIVE or $HBD to cover costs and as a reward. I can also give you a nice vote worth a few dollars. If you have any lying around I could be interested, even if they are well used. You can post a photo so I can see what you have and then I will pay on delivery. I increase my collection and you get more crypto. Seems like a good deal to me.

If others are collecting then I have a few spares that I am prepared to trade. Get in touch and we can discuss.

Rock on!

I can give nice votes too. I may as well use what I am earning here. I have already spent a lot of it buying various stuff.

it's very important to get the guitar picks that you are comfortable with its just like a knife it affects how well you play

Issues with my right hand make it tricky to use a pick, but I can still experiment with them.

I still just have the one that I am not sure I am ready to part with. I am going to do a better job of keeping my eyes open though. I'd love to find something special to send over to you someday.

I wouldn't want to deprive you of your one pick. Keep on playing.

Haha, yeah, who knows, I might actually use it to learn to play one day!

I love playing guitar as well just that the one I practice with is in Church. I am also planning to get one soon. Regarding picture I can send it to you.

Nice collection. I used to play in a band called Underworld Dreams. Just a few local shows and stuff, nothing spectacular. Our other guitarist used to order custom picks for us to give out. So thought you'd appreciate. 😀

Maybe I should get some made for my band. Are you offering those? If so you can DM me on Twitter or use Gmail. I am steevc on both.

I will ask my friend where he got them made. It was a while ago so may not be very helpful. 😆 I'll also see if he has any extras. Otherwise I'll probably keep these two. Sentimental. 😅

EDIT: https://claytoncustom.com/ is where they came from.

That's an interesting collection. It makes sense that picks of famous artists would be so expensive. Any celebrity memorabilia, signature or... stuff belonging to celebrities tends to have that effect. Very cool that people send them to you from the Hive community. I'd send you one if I had one.

Memorabilia can be strange. Picks cost a few cents to buy, but if they were touched by a celebrity they can be worth so much more. It depends on what people are willing to pay.

Yes its very strange, for sure. Often it doesn't make any sense either lol. But each to their own of course

There must be a name for pick collectors? If not what would it be? I used to play guitar many years ago, found my guitar in the loft recently. It just needs stringing up and an amp. Not played in 20 years.

Also found my old synth CS2x keyboard.

I hope you can get back into making music. The synth sounds interesting. I know little about them.

Yep - new gear can absolutely be a source of inspiration! Maybe that's why modular is so addictive :)

I think it's well over 100, but I know there are loads more to collect. It's just a bit of fun.

Hope you and the family had a good Xmas despite the circumstances. I bet the kids enjoyed it.

Happy new year!

That fat purple teardrop is a useful style. I was going to send you a bunch back in the steemit days - they're still in the same drawer!

We each find what works for us. I am favouring a thicker pick these days. I'll always be open to getting more for the collection.
