It's Not About The Gear: Episode 18
Only about a month after the previous episode I managed to do another one for my podcast about making music. Quite a lot has happened for me musically lately, so I have a fair bit to talk about.
Listen on Podomatic or Soundcloud. If you use a podcast player you can the feed is here.
This time I talk about my band Swing 42 who have been quite busy this year despite the pandemic. I also express my love for music documentaries and talk about my experience doing the #NaPodPoMo challenge last month. There is some music from the band too. You may be able to hear the dancers on those recordings.
I will aim to do a podcast every month, but I make no promises. I want to do more interviews and that may include some of the Hive community if I can figure out how to do it remotely.
I'll check out your podcasts 🎶
Hope you enjoy them. The NaPodPoMo ones were fun, but I put more work into my 'proper' episodes.
This sounds interesting. My son told me years ago to get into podcasting. Apparently all the so called Millennials listen to podcast's.
Do you film your podcasts?
I just do audio as that is enough work for me. I have been an avid podcast listener for many years. I was in a good community around a guitar one, but the show stopped and the community split up. I am trying to build something like that, but it's a bit of fun. Hive seems a natural home for podcasts as they can be hard to make money from. They tend to rely on things like Patreon, but a lot of listeners won't pay.
There is something about podcasts and talk radio in general. I used to listen to it all the time in my 20's 30's then kind of drifted away from the format? I don't know why come to think of it?
Just listened to the podcast. The anti bacs comment made me giggle.
I dropped out when you began talking about the Beatles doc.
I'm watching this week so I didn't want any spoilers.
Sound was good. Have your got a pop filter? 👍
I do use a pop filter with my MXL condenser mic. I moved it down to show off the mic on this shot.
It sounded pretty good. Very clear and balanced. Would you recommend this model?
I don't have much to compare it with, but I'm happy with the MXL 990. Not too expensive for a condenser, but a friend is the UK distributor and got me a deal. I got desk mic arm from my friend @stav.
Yay! 🤗

The intro music is quite interesting. You say in your podcast that you are still getting to know each other but the swing intro is pretty good for a band still getting to know each other.
We have known each other for a while, but we still have something to learn about playing as a band. We get good comments, so we must be doing something right.
