Follow Friday: Alexa, how's Hive doing?
The News
It has been a while since I did a summary of how the various Hive dapps are doing. I like to check on them to see if we are making progress.
One place to check on this is on @dappradar. They do not seem to count all the users for some dapps, but it gives some idea of traffic. @splinterlands is way ahead, with three dapps getting most of the social traffic. .
We can see how those do for visitors using Alexa (not the Amazon spy-bot). I do not know how accurate their statistics are, but they say they are based on millions of people using their apps
Splinterlands is really riding high in the top 6000 sites and hundreds of thousands of players. If a fraction of those started engaging on the social side it could make a huge difference. There is a dedicated dapp to post about the game, but how many players actually see it?
@peakd has become the top Hive blogging dapp with a great set of features.
Hive.blog still does well considering it lacks features of the others, but then if could be the default site people go to. They ought to know there are other options.
@ecency does pretty well too. I am assuming the figures will not include people using the mobile and desktop apps.
All these have seen growth in the last quarter. but we cannot be complacent. Some have lost ground recently. I am no expert in SEO, but we need more people to find and use the Hive dapps. Searching for 'hive' will find other things first, but we seem to be stuck with the name. We need more incoming links to Hive content and for that content to be attractive. Those who have a following elsewhere should try to bring in their fans as well as other creative people. Both sides can benefit from that.
I hope there can be some improvement this year, but what could we be working on in 2022 to improve matters? I think this ought to be discussed at @HiveFest. Cool dapps are all very well, but they need users.
Friday Followings
- @gtown is a fellow guitarist who posts some great videos and he has been supporting other axe-wielders on Hive.
- @dragosroua is a long-term witness who just upgraded his node. I would hope you are using your witness votes. If you are not sure who to vote for then you can use me as a proxy. I always use all my thirty votes.
- I have known @stav since long before Hive through a guitar forum. We have not met up in a while, but I can enjoy his great photography.
- @adaptnetwork have a site featuring all sorts of cool lifestyle stuff and they just came back to Hive.
- @cryptosneeze has been working in America, but just returned to the UK where he has been using the local gym.

The Doghouse
@keys-defender has highlighted a new phishing attack on Hive. They are flooding the crook's site with fake credentials, but you should still be very careful with your keys. Use Hive Keychain or Hivesigner rather than entering your keys directly. Any site not offering those as an option should be viewed with suspicion. If a site just wants your posting key they cannot do too much damage, but anthing else is risky. Once the crooks have access they will drain your funds and possibly lock you out of your account.
The End
Next week we have Hive Power Up Day. Anything you can power up helps improve the total and shows that people are prepared to invest in this platform.
Later next week I will publish an updated #BritList. I keep looking for people, but please let me know of anyone I might have missed. Some people do not make their location obvious, but it is up to them how specific they want it to be.
Hive five!
Nice update. I started using peakd a few months back after just using Hive blog for the longest time. It works much better I think. I never thought of the name of the platform and how that relates to search engine hits. That's kind of interesting interesting to think about. Makes sense why a lot of new site use obscure names with no other meaning to them. I never thought of that before.
'peakd' does not have an obvious relationship to Hive. It used to be St--mpeak before we forked off. New users should get exposed to ways to discover other dapps. There are lots more out there.

Interesting stats mate, I actually thought Splinterlands would be even higher. Un our guild qe have a lot newbies resulting in 5 (or even 6 now) newcomer guilds. Most of them just wanna play but we convinced some to start posting at least.
I have to confess spending most of my Hive time on games, especially of course on @rabona - we might do a speech on #hivefest if we manage time issues, at least we have a slot booked.
So you have extra guilds for the newbies? I am in a guild that does okay. It adds some extra fun to the game. I just think that every gamer is going to have other interests (well I hope they do) and they may find something they enjoy on Hive.
I've not looked at Rabona as I don't really want to spend more time on games. Any idea how many people play it?
I'm looking forward to Hivefest.

Yes - you might recognize them as they all have "legendary" in their guild name :-)

Nice post Steevc! Hive.Blog still resists, I haven't completely gotten used to PeakD. Splinterlands will remain in first place for months to come. I use Ecency a lot!
I think it's important that people are aware of the options. I use ecency on my phone, but mostly peakd on the PC.
