I love old steam engines. I have some old VHS videos I bought years ago with old footage of some of the steam titans that roamed the rails of the U.S. back in the day. The sounds and smells when you see one in real life are something you never forget. We have a couple that still operate close to us. My favorite is the Durango/Silverton in Colorado. A super neat old narrow gauge from the mining era. That train in your picture looks like one that might have been shipped to Africa after being decommissioned here in the U.S, many of the smaller steam engines went to various countries in African and the Middle East after the diesel engines replaced them. Thanks for sharing those pictures!

Oh yes, you are correct as our old steam trains were all imported. So may we have a piece of you over here. The driver of this one is familiar to me and he once allowed me to sit in the driving seat.
I normally get as close to them as I can in their run and it is a thrilling experience to feel the monster power when the train runs past me.

So you have been on that Durango/Silverton ride and it must have been a great ride. We used to travel on one for 3 days when I was in the army in 72, as then they were still running daily long distance trips. I had to go on those trips 6 times.
It is an experience that one never forgets.
