Could there ever be more Jobs In Nigeria?
I have come to ask myself that with the present state of the country, where the government doesn't care about the Educational sector, would they at least care about creating jobs opportunities for people in the country? I really don't know. I know there are few good jobs in the country but most of them, are only available through connections and the one left will come at your risk of convenience in which the pay is little compared to the task at hand.
In my country Nigeria, as much as there are a lot of undergraduate students, there is as of many graduates who are unemployed. Most of them must have been in schools back then looking for the best grade of results thinking that is all they need to get a secured Job in Nigeria, but little do they know what comes in their way.
Nigeria is a place where you can find a first class student in the department of chemistry working as a banker, while an accounting student can be found doing something weird as opposed to his field of study. Even our president once said; There are no government jobs available for the youths.
What is the way out of this shit; for me, I believed that we are in a developing age and the need for tech skills rises daily on the need. One can build his knowledge in tech, get to understand a lot of thing. For tech, there are different options to learn, but for me: I am learning one at the moment but it is quite not easy. What makes it not easy is the fact I am trying to learn something new and retain consistency in learning while I do so many other things.
I believe with the rate of corrupt, and nonchalant leaders we have, it would be hard for the rate of employment in Nigeria to get better. We have constant devaluation in our currency, and consistent increase in prices of goods and services. All these alone would prevent foreign investors to come into the country to start a business here or make an investment that would result into employment, but they run since the economy is not profitable to them.
I only hope that in this coming Election, we can get the right people to be on the sit of power. The right people that really do cares about the state of the country and not the state of their pocket, that really do care about the Educational sector and not to send their children to study abroad to leave other Nigerian students to suffer to the hands of ASUU STRIKE, that really do care about the state of the Health Sector and not to fly abroad only because they want to cure an ailment as simple as an headache.

So... How can I help what you're trying to accomplish?... First off, I'm a follow.
Right now I appreciate the countries that accept us for work, even if we know its cheap labour and we are mostly being used but the pay, security and the idea of a better life is our compensation.
The other day my partner was telling me about how people travel from other countries just to work in nigeria, unfortunately gone are those days... i really don’t understand why we keep moving backward over time instead of forward.
I like that we alway have options of remote and freelance jobs which has helped curb unemployment abit for most of our youth.
I really hope things get better with time.
First I apologize for the late reply.
Yeah that’s true. I was also told that other countries used to travel to Nigeria for studies very well most especially at University of Ibadan.
But now, everyone here wants to leave the country because it’s hell here.
Yeah from the way it is freelance and tech jobs are what that pays most.
Job creation has been one of Africa's most pressing issues. It may render education ineffective at times. However, we must find our own ways to improve people's lives. Thank you for bringing this to light, chaley.
We owe it to ourselves to find ways to improve our lives. Thanks for your wonderful contribution.
The truth is that a lot of things have gone wrong in the country and if by God's grace we get the right people who care about the state of our dear country after the election, it will still be so difficult for them to rewrite the wrong, maybe to a little extent.
However, the tech skill developments are pretty good at the moment. I see some graduates and undergraduates grabbing this opportunity and creating jobs for themselves after the training with a mega pay far better than what some companies offer, whereas some lazy Nigerian youth according to our president has chosen the shortcut of making money via yahoo activities.
Nowadays, hardly does anyone (including Nigerians oo) speak positively about Nigeria even outside the country, and this alone is enough to scare investors away from doing business in Nigeria like before.
We only hope that it will get better someday.
Talking about Yahoo! This is very rampant nowadays and most of these guys are taking it on a plus level. They don't care if their lifespan are cut short. All they want is the money.
I know what i am talking about and have friends who have gone plus on their yahoo business. I just try not to be close to them to avoid being used to make money.
🤣🤣🤣
Biko take race 🏃 🏃 without looking back for your dear life🤩
This our country is really not moving any forward students has been at home for 2 months and 2weeks inflation up and down with no money. Only God can help us in the this country and I pray so.
We also pray that a better person take up the sit in 2023
While this is very correct. There is another part that needs to be corrected. It is true that the government is to be blamed on the high side. But the rate at which the feeling of entitlement is rising in fellow citizens is alarming. This has breed alot of laziness in people today.
Despite the system that is in place here, we have numerous opportunities to hope on asap. But that entitlement feeling will hold many people back. There is a lot of resources to learn from today. One of them is YouTube and it is absolutely free. The digital or tech skills you can learn from there can get anyone going at least for now.
But to expect that this our Nigeria government will come to your rescue means such person is still dreaming or probably sleeping as the case may be. Instead of waiting on false hopes, we can at least create that employment for self. Shikena! 🤷
Man these are true words. Entitlement hinders personal progress. This is why it is wise for any student not to feel being with the best certificate assures as government job. A risky thing to do.
Sorry for late reply
A young lad or lady who depends solely on school grades is excellently doomed.
We just have to find something doing while there's still time before it becomes late.
The earlier we come to the realization of no employment (govt. job) for the youth in this our country (Nigeria) the better for us. Looking at the way IT students struggles before they get a placement that pays without connection is enough to put us on what’s going to happen after graduation.
It surprises me, when I see most students not learning skills but waiting till after graduation to get a well paying job. Well, maybe their father is in a high position to connect them but what about the less fortunate among us. I just hope we start making us of the tech/high income skills opportunities that we have now.
About the election, I won’t get to say much about it because we are already seeing their campaign, how they are faking to be who they are not just to get the citizens vote. It is only God that can intervene and choose his beloved that will have the affairs of people at heart and Nigeria will be great again.
This is a very nice topic @starstrings01
That govt jobs is outta my mind at the moment. As you said, skill building is very important. We don't need to wait still we finish school before we realize that we have gotten it wrong for not backing up with a skill and thinking the govt. got us.
I love your example of IT placement. That's a good one.
I appreciate your wonderful comments. Sorry for the late reply. Thank you!
You are not the only one in the ship o😂
It’s my pleasure, boss👍 No offense taken at all.
My guy problem Dey oo
Discord disabled my account because they said I performed or is joined a server faster than humanly possible. They just disabled my account and logged me out. I can’t even login again, I had to open a new account. @starstrings01 I even participated in our weekly contest, I really don’t know what to do again like this. Should I chat you on discord with the new account.
Looks like our country is the same. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer.
This is a serious problem that doesn't seem to be getting better
The unemployment issue is why more and more people are getting into unconventional ways to make money...
Cybercrime is now the norm among young men
Taking advantage of people is called "being smart"
This is so true,
No one is even relying on school degrees anymore
I guarantee you that if you talk to most nigerian youth, you'd find out that a majority of them (at least the wise ones) have side job or jobs that they are focusing on and skills that they are learning...
It's so sad that after spending 5 years in school, there's no guarantee for a job and the government is not really interested in fixing this issue
The young ones have to take it upon themselves to make something of themselves.
As someone was once said,
"Being born in Nigeria is a challenge on it's own"
But as per the anthem of the youth...
WE MOVE
Yeah true, many of the youths feels the solution to their employment is to go into cybercrime.
I don’t know how these guys feel comfortable stealing from people even though they might not know them. Is there no conscience in them or their soul is just filled with the love of money.
As for we the wise ones, it’s best we skill up before we go outta school!
These are questions we may never be sure of the answer
But the truth is clear, it's wrong and the implications are numerous...
Make we Sha continue dey do our own and make we no lose focus. Na the koko be that
You said it all my man
As per the anthem of the youth...
WE MOVE
Nigeria is suffering from some form of imbalance. Imagine putting two different weights together at different ends.
You can quickly remember sitting on one side of a bench without someone on the other end. You quickly notice the imbalance with the bench tipping high and you may fall or nearly do so.
That's Nigeria. The weight of employment opportunities can not handle half the weight of the unemployed, and this is a huge problem.
Something intelligent has to be done. Not more than 60 years ago, China and South Korea were poorer than Nigeria, but see how the tables have turned now.
We just cross our hands and look, and if you get transport, you may leave.
Yeah. Nigeria is far from balance. And just adding up a few employment opportunities cannot bring any balance. Something intelligent is needed and a long lasting one.
I still believe, there is a possibility for Nigeria to be better but Only God knows when.
As a Nigerian, I am doing my best to hold on on to the notion that Nigeria has nothing waiting for me after school. I have seen so many of my senior ones left with nothing close to employment of means for living from the government simply because they had trust in the government to take them in for putting so much work in school and finishing with excellence.
Truly, the leaders are one of our biggest problems. But with this election coming up, one can only hope for the better to happen.
With all the circumstances surrounding youths of Nigeria, it is a big struggle every day for youths to make it.
A wise one once said is best to learn from the mistakes of others than yourself.
Changing your mindset about the government having something to offer you is a smart idea.
After seeing some series of comments here my comment is Hmmm...
