Make your own chalkboard wall at home (ESP/ENG)

Hello friends of HiveDiy this week I want to show you a project I implemented in my house to recover a kitchen wall that was looking pretty bad and with a little creativity we managed to create a modern and fun chalkboard wall.

Hola amigos de HiveDiy está semana quiero mostrarles un proyecto que implemente en mi casa para recuperar una pared de la cocina que se veía bastante mal y con un poco de creatividad logramos crear una pared de pizarra moderna y divertida.

Those of you who have seen my food posts on hive know that this is my wall for photos and that I take all the photos there as it gives the feel of a restaurant mural.

Los que han visto mis publicaciones de comida en hive saben que este es mi muro para las fotos y que todas las fotos las tomo allí ya que da la sensación de ser un mural de un restaurante.

The origin of the slate came from the desire to give color to the kitchen since everything in it is white and also because that wall was previously white and was completely full of magnets, but not being made of metal they decided to stick them to it. This idea was not bad at first, but after several years some of them started to deteriorate and others started to fall off so the wall stopped looking pretty, which stressed me a lot.

El origen de la pizarra fue producto del deseo de darle color a la cocina ya que todo en ella es blanco y además porque esa pared anteriormente era blanca y estaba totalmente llena de imanes, pero al no ser de metal decidieron pegarlos a ella. Esta idea al principio no era mala, pero después de varios años comenzaron a deteriorarse algunos y otros a caerse así que la pared dejo de verse bonita, cosa que me estresaba un montón.

We removed the magnets, removed the white formica and left the raw wood.
As I didn't have any chalkboard paint at the time, I used black forge primer (don't worry, I got the effect I wanted 😂) and painted my wall.

In total I did 2 coats of paint, but to make sure it was dry I waited two days to paint the second coat and to write on my wall, because in the area where I live there is a lot of humidity and everything takes time to dry, and the idea was not to damage the work in a hurry.

Quitamos los imanes, quitamos la fórmica blanca y dejamos la madera cruda.
Cómo no conseguí pintura para pizarra en ese momento utilice fondo de herrería de color negro (tranquilos que logré el efecto que quería 😂) y pinte mi pared.

En total hice 2 capas de pintura, pero para asegurarme que estuviese bien seco espere dos días para pintar la segunda capa y para escribir en mi pared, pues en la zona donde vivo hay mucha humedad y todo tarda en secar, y la idea no era dañar el trabajo por el apuro.

Once the paint was dry enough I started to write with my colored chalks. I didn't use any kind of stencil but you could use it if you feel more comfortable that way.

Una vez estuvo lo suficientemente seca la pintura comencé a escribir con mis tizas de colores. Yo no use ningún tipo de plantillas pero podrías utilizarla si te sientes más cómodo así.

This wall can be cleaned with a damp cloth and you can write other messages or drawings. In my case I didn't want to erase it because I really liked how it looked, in fact my slate wall is about 3 years old and the only thing I would change would be to write the phrases with watercolor paint or cold as it is called in Venezuela, because I have noticed that over time the colors have lost intensity.

Está pared puedes limpiarla con un paño húmedo y podrás anotar otros mensajes o dibujos. En mi caso luego no quise borrarlo porque me gustó mucho como quedó, de hecho mi pared de pizarra tiene ya unos 3 años y lo único que cambiaría sería escribir las frases con pintura acuarela o al frío como se le dice en Venezuela, pues si he notado que con el tiempo los colores han perdido intensidad.

On this type of walls you can write down whatever you want, even leave the lower part for children to paint and draw as they like.
Some people leave a space to write down to-do's or even the grocery list.

En este tipo de paredes puedes anotar lo que quieras, incluso dejar la parte más baja para que los niños pinten y dibujen a su gusto siempre.
Algunas personas dejan un espacio para anotar las tareas pendientes o incluso la lista del supermercado.

In my case, I preferred to write affirming phrases, there is no belief about it but I liked the idea of making a wall with affirming phrases about family and that from time to time I read while I am waiting for something to finish cooking.

En mi caso, preferí escribir frases de afirmación, no hay ninguna creencia al respecto pero me gustó la idea de hacer un muro con frases de afirmación sobre la familia y que de vez en cuando leo mientras estoy esperando que algo se termine de cocinar.
