I show you how to make a bandana bib. Pattern and sewing (ESP/ENG)
Hello friends of Needle Work Monday, yesterday was a holiday in Venezuela to celebrate Labor Day, many stores closed early because of this and I completely forgot that I had a pending gift for a baby that is about to be born, and I had to think at full speed what I could give him.
As I could not go out and I was quite busy organizing some things at home this weekend, I decided to give her a handmade gift, but now that I say it, I do not understand how I did not think of doing it before, because for those who sew or knit, we know that when we make the gift ourselves we are giving it an additional value at the time of delivery, we dedicate a little more care or attention when choosing and creating it.
The first thing I thought was that it should be a useful gift, practical for mom and baby, so I thought: What do babies use the most in their first months or years of life? and the automatic answer in my mind was: bibs.
Those who are moms or aunts (the latter is my case 😂) know that those first months the babies are always dirtying near the mouth or drooling hahaha.
To make this set of bibs you need very few materials, although it is important that you use a tool like the one in the photo, which is the one that allows you to attach the snaps to the garment.
These types of tools are available in haberdasheries, as well as brooches. Depending on the quality, you can get better quality brooches than others.
Materials:
Half a yard of cotton pajama fabric. (The amount of fabric will depend on the width of the fabric).
Snap fasteners and tool to attach them.
Ruler and chalk fabric to make the bib pattern.
Materiales:
The first thing we will do is make a square on the pattern paper that measures 42 centimeters wide and 42 centimeters long. We will draw a line of 42 centimeters that will serve as the width of the bib.
We measure the middle and just at that point we will draw a vertical line, which will serve as the meeting point of the lines that will form the triangle of the bib.
Once we have the central line that serves as a guide, we will draw a line from the beginning of the line of the width of the bib, and it should measure 29 centimeters long. Repeat the same on the other side.
If you have doubts that both sides will be the same, I recommend making half of the pattern and before cutting it, fold it right in half, so that both sides will be the same.
Next, we are going to work on the edges of the pattern, that is, where the brooches will go. For this we will remove two centimeters on each side of the pattern and one centimeter high, and we will draw a diagonal line.
To make the curve of the bib at the neck more natural, we will measure 2.5 centimeters towards the center of the pattern and carefully draw a curved line from the center to the outer edge of the pattern.
Finally, we will reduce also in the internal part of the sides of the bib. Here we will measure the middle and reduce one centimeter towards the center, as in the neck, very carefully we will make a curve.
Once we have the pattern we cut it out and take it to the fabric. Here the pattern is a little free, you can use cloth or absorbent fabric for the inner part of the bib, the same fabric you use for the visible side of the bib, or as I did, use a unicolor fabric in a color that matches the fabric you use.
When you choose the fabric and take the pattern to it, leave one centimeter for the seam all around, because it is not included in the pattern.
You are going to cut two pieces of fabric and face them right sides together and sew all the way around, except for the sides where the snaps will go, since that is where we will flip the fabric.
Once all the contour is sewn, we turn around and proceed to close the part where we help us to turn around. I usually make a decorative seam around the edge and at the same time I use it to sew the side.
Once the bib is ready, place the clasps or the button you have chosen to close it. As an extra tip, I recommend that you wash it before giving it as a gift, remember that the fabrics spend time stored, even in our homes and we do not know if the surfaces where we place them were clean enough.
