Tales of the Urban Explorer: The Mansion in the Fields

“There’s a car down there, is it a farmer waiting for us with duel pitchforks?”

I squinted at the vehicle in the distance. It was smack bang in the middle of the dirt road we were walking up, lights on, engine revving, body pulsating.

18_IMG_7820_18.jpg

These farmers do get a little obsessive about their 'land' even if the road looks very public. It's best to try and stay clear of them, especially if they are wearing 'wellies', @grindle knows all about those.

I looked over to the right. If Farmer Crank decided to loose the clutch we would need to wait until the last second before jumping to one side, a little like those Spanish bullfighters.

28_IMG_7830_28.jpg

Our target was in sight and was that window missing?

@anidiotexplores had sourced this from somewhere and as usual, we had no idea what to expect having been told nothing.

We quickened the pace and hoped ‘Crank’ would get distracted. Maybe one of his balls would start seriously itching or a sudden violent bout of diarrhoea would stain his jocks, giving him a more pressing problem than those two 'harmless explorers' walking toward that house.

We had almost reached the house when we noticed ‘Crank’ had gone. Thank fuck for the mental voodoo curse I had sent through the airwaves up the path.

Now go get a new set of underwear, we will be gone before you leave Marks and Spencer.

1_IMG_7803_1.jpg

I looked at @anidiotexplores aghast. What was going on here? It looked surreal. This was a very modern detached house smashed up to the eyeballs. It was also in a rural location and yet looked like it had received many other unwanted visitors.

25_IMG_7827_25.jpg

Getting inside was hardly going to pose a problem. We didn’t need to open the front door, it was gone.

2_IMG_7804_2.jpg

That’s the front door below the windows. Someone had removed it, and moved it inside, very nice of them.

3_IMG_7805_3.jpg

The kitchen or what was left of it. Modern, tasteful and I love the tiles with teapots and the like.

4_IMG_7806_4.jpg

This has no right being in such a terrible state, just shocking.

5_IMG_7807_5.jpg

Some arsehole had given the house a right going over. The sink missing; this is, or was a fully tiled wet room with the looks of things.

6_IMG_7808_6.jpg

Some of the walls were down to the original brickwork. Don't tell me the plasterboard has also been ripped away.

7_IMG_7809_7.jpg

I am not a fan of the wallpaper, this leads into what was the conservatory.

8_IMG_7810_8.jpg

Fitted wardrobes, why not rip off the doors for no good reason at all, and while you are at it, pull the radiator off the wall?

9_IMG_7811_9.jpg

Lovely double glazing and every window smashed. I looked at the view and realised this was more than just a house.

10_IMG_7812_10.jpg

Destruction everywhere I looked.

11_IMG_7813_11.jpg

This room had been shown mercy and left alone beside the carpet which had been dislodged.

12_IMG_7814_12.jpg

Parts were starting to look like a derp instead of a luxurious detached farmhouse.

14_IMG_7816_14.jpg

If the windows were not smashed, they were missing.

13_IMG_7815_13.jpg

15_IMG_7817_15.jpg

Some of the banister remained and there’s something up there. We didn’t explore what we call the 'loft' here.

17_IMG_7819_17.jpg

A massive house and we will never know what happened. Searching for the history of modern smashed buildings rarely reveals anything.

16_IMG_7818_16.jpg

It must have been fantastic once, and even that cranky cunt ‘Crank’ would not be able to do anything about access if you were the owner.

We moved to the other outhouses thinking it would be farming equipment at best.

21_IMG_7823_21.jpg

It was, and I am guessing this was the dairy. It’s a modern twist on the usual type of farm which tends to be 19th century and passed down the generations.

22_IMG_7824_22.jpg

Not being a farmer, I had little idea of the nature of this mechanical gear.

23_IMG_7825_23.jpg

Enough barn space to house many animals, the ones on the right look suspiciously damaged or maybe burnt.

24_IMG_7826_24.jpg

Abandoned animal housing is not my thing. I was starting to get bored and thinking we had finished here.

27_IMG_7829_27.jpg

Had these modern-day farmers given up? It's a hard life in today's world with the supermarkets adding pressure to them and making them sell their goods at shitty prices for little or no profit.

We started to leave and noticed a couple walking toward the entrance. We looked at them, but we may as well have not existed. The bloke set up a tripod and started filming, oblivious to us, retreating down the long dirt road.

"Fucking weirdos", I mentioned to @anidiotexplores, who nodded in agreement.

26_IMG_7828_26.jpg

Farmer Crank was nowhere in sight. Some of the rural branches of Marks and Spencer tend to be closed on Sundays. Oh…, that squashy squidgy moist arse feeling, there’s nothing worse.

So...there's an Urbex community in here. I had no idea about it. I thought you were the only one who post this kind of interesting content. Anyway, I'll make sure to pay it a visit when I have some material that fits abandoned places/ I love the way you are writing. It's engaging and almost feels like it's happening right in front of my eyes.

I wish I could just be gifted this kind of mansion, lol
Anyway, this is my first time hearing of Urbex community
Nice pictures though!

Very cool! The house could use a serious renovation though! Maybe the dairy was too expensive to run and they went broke? At least the farmer next door didn't show up with his shotgun!

Maybe the dairy was too expensive to run and they went broke?

I am willing to think this is the case, farmers have it hard here now. The supermarkets squash them if they won't co-operate.

At least the farmer next door didn't show up with his shotgun!

It's not happened yet, but we have met a few. They tend to always be pissed off.

Hahaha!! For some reason, I think you over trusted your mental voodoo, with regards to the disappearing of farmer crank. Didn't you at any point think he would appear from behind, with his pitch falk. The moment you walked into the house?

Farmer Crank never returned. Being so open made us isolated, we are usually sneaky ninjas when approaching a property. On this occasion we couldn't do anything other than be blatant.

So cool to visit these Urbex locations. I also didn't know this was posted here on Hive. I will share them soon. Keep posting this kind of stuff.

I like the view of the window. I would like to drink a coffee, putting a chair nearby it.

This one was very interesting. A lot of things looked modern, and from the windows, tiles, and design, it also seemed like an upper middle class to rich house. Really nice abandoned places like these make me wonder why the owners decided to not use it anymore.

The rich are not immune from disaster. Perhaps COVID-19 was a factor?

yes indeed, welsh farmers enjoy their wellies, especially if there are sheep about. That's a nice big hole to not have to squeeze through too!

Many many holes in this one, the walk sucked, it was too long. The house was a speck from where we dumped the car.

I feel wasted of those abandoned mansions and houses.. They can be home for the homeless .

Must have been a lovely house at one point - some lovely features. All seems a bit weird as to why its abandoned as its not that old and must have been a decent size farm at some point.

This was my first discovery of Hive's urbexing community as well, and wow, was it an amazing find!

This looks to have been a beautiful home in its day, with high-end construction and fixtures. A conservatory? In a farmhouse? Over here in the US only mansions have such extravagances. It's a damn shame some asshat felt the need to break and rip apart everything they could reach, but sadly not unusual.

I haven't done any urbexing in many years, but I would love to be close enough to see this one in person.

Oh yes! Ghost towning too! I have a serious fascination with most things old and decaying...particularly buildings!

Where I live you're likely to come across all sorts of things just by going for a hike in the woods. Usually the only thing left standing from an old homestead is the brick or stone chimney, but once in a while you can still see more.

Do you have any bottle houses over there (houses built primarily/entirely out of empty soda or beer bottles)? We have a few over here, and they're some of my favorites!

Can't say I have heard of those, they would quickly collapse due to our terrible weather.

Wow, it's impressive that house... The structure, the design, everything is beautiful. Seen from afar it looks like one of those LEGO sets that my dad never bought me because he considered them "for girls" hahaha :))!.... Excellent exploration report as always my dear friend @.... Great photos here!...

A long walk this one, a real shame about the house. Hope it's still not like this.

The house looks nice and impressive. The design and how it's structured is wonderful too. Seen from a distance it does not even look abandoned. You made a wonderful explore. Thanks for sharing with us 👍👍

A lot of the cabinetry looks no older than the 80s or 90s, and the appliances and tiling look like they may date back to theb60s or 70s, so I would hazard a guess the whole thing was either built or extensively remodeled well after WW2. The dairy barn fixtures also look like fairly modern installations. Do you suppose the foot and mouth outbreak about 20 years ago killed the farm?

Do you suppose the foot and mouth outbreak about 20 years ago killed the farm?

I do remember the outbreak but had to look it up. It's a possibility, and the only way to truly find out would be to ask the locals. They are not always accomodating.

What a pretty house! It looks like a good place for a big family with a bunch of kids all playing and helping on a farm. Also looks like a good place for a horror/mystery movie shoot 😄

It’s hard to imagine why one would just abandon something like this, but then again, you never know… For example, we once walked past a beautiful sail boat (huge boat with sleeping space, kitchen, etc), the man lying down on deck was selling it for like $2000 😳 — basically giving it away. Turns out he couldn’t sail it back home (waaay up North, maybe close to Alaska, and we are in California) because of the ongoing storms, and everyday dock rent was so high that he just couldn’t afford owning that boat anymore.

I rarely find history and if I do, don't tend to post it as it gives away the location. In this case there's little to destroy but some of them hold many items of value and they do belong to someone.

I always wanted to ask: how did this idea of writing about abandoned houses come about?

It was while browsing a book in Valetta, Malta about strange bizarre places. One of them was on the island and I visited and managed to get in.

I got spooked and left quickly, but it sowed the seeds. On my return to the UK, I started digging into he UX scene. The rest is history!

It would be cool to buy all these houses and restore them! Maybe this is your next goal? 🤪😊

Such as place as this is my dream to get and fix up, so sad. Do you know any of the details as if it's for sale? What's to be done with it? etc? So sad.

Also much legislation is coming to the UK in the guise of 're-wooding' or returning the forest that is a direct attack on farmland and farmers, sadly.

Thanks for this and such destruction seems so deliberate and wanton.

I saw no 'For Sale' signs and do look for for them. The one was truly abandoned.

I can't get this place out of my head. I'm sure if it were for sale it'd be far to pricey like most things in the UK but do you have the exact address? I'd love to do some research, I know it's silly but can't stop thinking about it haha.
