Tales of the Urban Explorer: St Julie's Catholic High School

...Why has this been abandoned, it’s not so old and seems wasteful...

These were my thoughts on seeing ''St Julie's Catholic High School' or should I say the remaining parts. Some digging reveals that most of the school, built in the 1960s has been demolished.

21_IMG_3209_21.jpg

This would account for the large amounts of crap hanging around the edges. It made for tough navigating, and we were here to see Woolton Hall, not this bad-looking visage…

Woolton Hall is next to ''St Julie's Catholic High School’ and was sealed. What made it worse was the effort to get in the grounds.

Sliding under a fence, grunting and groaning, with the spiky edges poking my chest while bemused motorists crawl by with big grins on their faces?.., sigh.., why do I do this shit?

We scrambled over loose bricks, tough wires part sticking out of concrete and tough enough to remove your ear if not careful, and masses of broken glass to get close to ''St Julie's Catholic High School’.

Getting inside was not going to be an issue, pick your access point. We chose the front door as it was handy and close by.

I found another post from 2017 that reveals what ''St Julie's Catholic High School’ was like five years before. Then it was secured by alarms and there was a lot more inside as we were about to discover.

1_IMG_3189_1.jpg

A little bending, ducking, stretching the legs, minding the nails sticking out and you are in.

2_IMG_3190_2.jpg

If you want a tougher challenge then enter from a different direction, climb up, and use gloves else your hands will get shredded with the glass remnants in the frames.

3_IMG_3191_3.jpg

4_IMG_3192_4.jpg

Well now, where to look and see something other than bland stripy wallpaper and a few plug sockets.

5_IMG_3193_5.jpg

If renovation work had taken place then it must have been long ago. Why bother when the rest of the school has already been bulldozed and the brand new, 'St Julie's Catholic High School’ is just next door, outside of the Woolton Hall grounds?

6_IMG_3194_6.jpg

It was going to be one of those explores where you could learn about wood panels, glue, and the nails used to stick them together. I never did have aspirations to become a joiner.

7_IMG_3195_7.jpg

The metal bars are on the inside. Health and Safety anyone, or were the brats that attended this school trained as criminals? If you are in an out of jail all your life, you may as well get used to looking at bars.

8_IMG_3196_8.jpg

There are always going to be fires started in these places. If a large one gets out of control, then you end up with a building shell. There are plenty about.

9_IMG_3197_9.jpg

A decent variety of penis images, along with 'Exploring with Taffy' scrawling. He sounds Welsh, is, and @anidiotexplores has crossed paths in the past.

10_IMG_3198_10.jpg

Be very wary about placing your arse on this one. It could well collapse leaving you embarrassed, turds everywhere, and needing an urgent shower.

11_IMG_3199_11.jpg

The graffiti was about the most interesting sight in 'St Julie's Catholic High School’. Shame there was no nice artwork, Liverpool is not known for its artistry.

12_IMG_3200_12.jpg

Someone had put some work into the building before giving up. Did they run out of money, or suddenly had this realisation that there's already a brand new replacement school next door?

13_IMG_3201_13.jpg

The pigeons haven't wasted any time dumping their shit in here, partially renovated or not.

15_IMG_3203_15.jpg

Climbing the stairs we hit the roof and tentatively placed our feet on it. It didn’t look super sturdy, but that’s one of the risks one takes.

14_IMG_3202_14.jpg

We drooled over the view of Woolton Hall, It was fantastic, gloomy, ancient, foreboding and teeming with old relics. This is where we wanted to be, not in this shell bore-fest.

16_IMG_3204_16.jpg

St Julie's Catholic High School’ was structurally sturdy inside, the stairs were never going to collapse on us, and even the banisters were intact.

17_IMG_3205_17.jpg

They demolished some surrounding buildings but failed to take all the crap away.

18_IMG_3206_18.jpg

The back of 'St Julie's Catholic High School’. There was little need to look around down there, as the front door was accessible.

19_IMG_3207_19.jpg

Very 1970's wallpaper, but I quite like it. It reminds me of when I was a kid.

Not one window remained intact. Either they were bricked from here or from the inside. There seems little point to the existence of the remains of ''St Julie's Catholic High School’. It needs to be demolished.

20_IMG_3208_20.jpg

We exited the grounds via a high wall. Jumping down is way easier than climbing up. I wasn’t going to scramble under that damn fence again.

Lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Man you do find fantastic abandoned buildings it's so beautiful I do hope governments around the world just let homeless people use it even if it has no electricity or water because government these days are cheap AF at least they have a place to stay.

Anyway do take care and keep safe while you're checking abandoned buildings like you said on your post especially the rooftop is not sturdy see you on the next post good night.

The one next door was the looker. It has all kinds of things in there, and up until recently allowed permission visits. Now it's sealed up, until it's not again.., if you get my meaning?

So you mean it was allowed visits then sealed up and maybe in the future it's allowed again do Correct me if I'm wrong

I think it's sealed forever. Word is the caretaker let explorers in and gave them guided tour for free. Later he started charging! and got busted, then sacked. The place was then sealed.

Ah that's sucks but it's ok at least you got to check the place out hehe

I was thinking someone was trying to rebuild walls in there. Maybe wanted to turn it into flats. Do schools generally have wallpaper? I thought they were mostly just painted. Anyway, it's all just a mess now. Yet another blot on the landscape.

It's a good point, I can't remember.., what mine was like. Too long ago.

School days are so long ago now. I vaguely remember some stuff about the decor. Schools have to endure the wear and tear of hundreds of kids. A couple I went to were pretty old, but one was brand new when I started there, so I was in the top year all the way through. Even my kids have finished school now, but my other half works in one.

Places like this can be just a hideout of some gangs haha..

That is often in my head, but in reality it doesn't happen.

The only thing I can say about that place is that someone just needs to finish the rest of the demolition ! Although I did like the cannabis wallpaper on the stairs - quite groovy !

Good analogy, I didn't think of that!

I studied in a Catholic boarding school of nuns from 1969-1976 and I know what a teenager is capable of doing when the curiosity to know everything is at its peak and is the same urban street graffiti of penises and everything that was hidden about sex, perhaps that school in Liverpool keeps the same messages of those girls of the time ... the Catholic Curia always manages the same structure even if the years pass.

I feel that these derelict buildings should be used for the benefit of special children and those who cannot be cared for because their mothers are in prison or mentally ill.

When I saw the title I just kept thinking St Trinians High school. Obviously, the post then veered off in a vastly different direction to that expectation. :OD

You don't see those cheap shit doors (the horrible off green one) in that stairs photo much these days thankfully. Cheap horrible things!

I was hoping there would be something in there, but no.. just bad graffiti.. and cocks :(

The inscriptions on the wall really indicate that real people were there. As a teacher, sometimes I go through the classrooms and other building within the school to find out what is in the mind of our learners and you can boldly find it on the walls as they can't sometimes communicate it orally, they write on the wall. I did same if I have stopped writing funny stuffs when I'm bored I don't know.

Just can't imagine the rate of abounded properties by individuals and groups worse is the government.

Reminds me of Robert Bruce School in Bedford, closed for 10-15 years, the complex is huge and awesome to explore, but a fire started in one of the buildings these year, i think they may demolish it soon.

I guess I prefer the school empty and open like that, weather having to be looked up behind those bars for hours and hours...
for sure not much left in there, I guess it would have been interesting to see the benches with still some books or other accessories around. Next school?

If you had asked me i would say why don't they renovate it and lease or sell to another individual who have always anticipated in having he's or her own school, just my on perspective though.

It is what we also regret that many great schools like 'St Julie's Catholic High School' are abandoned and forgotten, this is what happens in Venezuela with the Central University of Venezuela, one of the best in the world and every day I see it more abandoned, She has graduated great scientists who are in the world. @slobberchops Its publication must also be analyzed by high-ranking politicians and many people who have the courage to defend the great study centers worldwide.

I see some broken windows, but you would need a ladder...

Someone had put some work into the building before giving up. Did they run out of money, or suddenly had this realisation that there's already a brand new replacement school next door?

My guess is maybe something happened to that building, which caused it to be replaced after they realized it had serious structural issues?

I dug and couldn't find much about it, quite unusual.

Definitely strange that they would abandon it only to build right next door, without a good reason. Buildings like that aren't cheap...

Such a weird congregation of contrasting issues - the newish looking wood with the outdated wall paper and all the broken windows...I don't think it looked all that much better when it was a school to be honest.

The graffiti seemed rather uninspired, but hopefully there's gonna be better artwork in the Hall next door, I'm assuming you were able to find a way there?

Always hilarious lines!!!!.... Always great pictures... This time that place looks like something we might see after the third world war (maybe soon, if we keep going the way we are going).... I'm sure you'll survive the apocalypse and keep doing this kind of crazy raids in the middle of radiation and buildings alone!... 😂

As an Electrical tradesman I have disconnect power to a number of places like this over the years out here in Australia. It is crazy to see so many resource just go to waste. They even hire security to make sure stuff does not get taken just to have all the big machinery come in and smash it up to pieces, then get hauled away to land fill. Though I suppose to fair they just cant have a free for all, it would be mayhem. My guess is it's part of some 5 year business plan, they only have so much money per budget to get it ready for future school expansions. I wonder what abandoned places might be around me that might make an interesting post. Thanks for the prompt.
