Tales of the Urban Explorer: Ashworth Farm
It was intended as an appetiser; ‘Garlic Bread’ if you must be more specific. This was an old wrecked house on the way to Liverpool, curtains hanging out of the windows and blowing in the wind. What could be inside?
I knew the answer to be, ‘very little’. This one, I had tracked down after finding it somewhere on the internet. The lead could have been via ‘28dayslater’ or ‘derelictplaces’, one of those two dinosaur Urban Explorer websites that are getting less relevant by the day.
Occasionally, if I am desperate I check one, or both to try and sniff out something that’s not ten years old and gives away the location. The former requires posters to specify the town, or area which is a good starting clue.
‘Ashworth Farm’ was one of those, and took a little digging to excavate. The post could be old, or the visit from yesterday, who knows?
I searched but could not find much about this one. Google Images portray the farm in a terrible state in 2009, and yet a newer image from 2015 indicates the property was lived in. Note the dustbins that give this away. Was it renovated, only to fall into disrepair again just one year later?

…’Ashworth Farm, circa 2015; it looks rundown but still lived in. Just one year later, it’s abandoned again with a full set of ‘tin’ covering the front’…
Our target was on a busy main road and we needed to park a ways from it, and walk back. Getting past the herras fencing unnoticed was impossible, so we simply ignored the rubberneckers and edged past it.
Despite the heavy ‘tin sheeting’ nestling on the front side, the back was a walk-in and I sighed deeply at the lack of staircase. You can see it running diagonally up the wall on the right side.
Unless this was a multi-stair property there would be no viewing of the upper floors today.
The lower floors were not exactly sturdy in some rooms. I remember my foot crashing through the boards in at least one of the rooms.
Even with shallow floors such as these, you do need to be careful. A twisted ankle won’t send you to A&E, but can make the rest of the day uncomfortable.
Sights such as this end up being a point and click, as there is little else you can do. Uncovering the debris is something I have no desire to pursue.
The floor in the main hall walkway at least was relatively stable.
One of the once front rooms of ‘Ashworth Farm’. Whoever lived here seemed to like their wine, with images of glasses, some in pairs, drawn everywhere. They look like custom designs and that would have cost some money.
I suspect there could have been goodies in here once; the corner near the metal shutters yielded a few scraps lying around the floor such as ‘Everyday French’ minus the CD’s.
While ‘The Greatest Hits under the Sun’ volume 2 could well have yielded a scratched CD, I could only assume they were likely to be pop songs of the poorest calibre, and besides who owns a CD player now?
Fallen beams in this state are best avoided as they tend to continue downward crushing one to death if you stare at them hard enough. The worst case would give you a nasty splinter.
If you were to start a fire and crack a bottle, the atmosphere may improve a little.
It’s one of those properties with upstairs coal fires again. I wonder if they also require multiple chimneys.
The quintet who wrote this must have been young teenagers, and ‘Liz’ is far from being an adept writer.
The wine glass design extended past the living room and into the hall. Wallpaper it most definitely was not.
I thought there may have been a stash of letters beside the front door, but it was surprisingly void of anything besides piles of crap. The draped linen rose-etched curtain would look right at home in my late-grandmothers house.
Behind the door told me ‘Ashworth Farm’ was once a business, that ran outside of family members. The placement of it was strange. Did the employees enter the farmhouse to perform their work duties?
We exited and had a look around the rear of the property. It took me a while to figure out this was once a caravan. As well as being scorched, some roaming country giant had decided to step on the roof.
You can see for yourself that a lumbering twenty-foot monster had also knocked the left side of the rear. I mean what else could have done that?
The outhouses were extremely dull, void of anything besides the usual types of junk. We left in search of more exciting prey.
This was very average ‘Garlic Bread’.

Indeed, it looks like a city monster with a big foot stepped on the roof 😄
They are problem in rural areas, the local authorities need to step up some 😀
From the outside it looks more like a business office than a farmhouse. I guess it's just the small windows and the squareness of it all! At least you got to find a few interesting things here!
Crumbling beams about to fall on my head. Time has been unkind to this one!
Yeah, but that French thing was kind of cool and the magazine or whatever it was. Those are at least something!
You have to focus on what's inside if there is little. It's easy to miss details, like items on the floor which don't jump up at you. Used needles are one such item.
Yeah, definitely want to avoid those!
What a dump! From the outside it didn't look to bad but wow that's in bad shape... It's a prime candidate for the wrecking ball! Took some serious balls to go in that one, it looks like it's ready to fall down!
Thanks, but it's really not that dangerous, or to me.., its not! I guess I am used to it all now. I have been in quite a lot worse.
Hey hey, Liz is trying her best. Cut her some slack.
Give her the benefit of the doubt, she must've been writing when the monster came by.
This one was quite rural, I am surprised 'Liz' made it this far into the wilderness. A car was required.
What in the world is going on with all the red glasses? I don't think it's supposed to be wine because of the little umbrella and olive pick. Margaritas perhaps? Was that the name of the owner? So many questions
![image.png](
I found a decent amount of YouTube videos about this one, but they don't tend to give away historic details. Even with the name 'Ashworth', I couldn't dig up anything.
Although annoying it is cool seeing a staircase like that, or rather the marks where it once was!
Hehe, that diagonal line always gives away the origins of a staircase. Not a chance of getting up there, and there was an 'up there' to be seen.
I always forget that I have a set of ladders in the car, we could have gotten up that, if desperate!
The whole place is very good but I'm annoyed that the building is abandoned
I wonder where the owners went to, lol
Woah the french book with the CD's really brought back some memories. I just love the surreal almost (but not really) luminal space feeling these posts you make gives.
CD's are not a thing anymore. I don't even own a DVD player, unless the PS5 takes them. Once upon a time, I would be lost without a floppy disk drive 😀
OS and 28 et al are dying as everyone on fb and twattube sees themselves as a simon reeve or michael portillop. "exploring with.....wankers". same old tour bus regurgitated shite. At least none of those nonces have migrated to the hive
You are in fine curmudgeonly form today! They won't come here as it's 'too complicated' and 'getting the money out' is far too difficult!
'Exploring with Cuntface' is a trope associated with banality and one I advocate as it makes me stick out more! 😀
I need to let off steam now and again!
😀😀
Exploring the remnants of Ashworth Farm must've been quite the eerie experience, especially with its mysterious past and wine glass designs.
Those foot-crashing boards sound treacherous, and I wouldn't want to tangle with any twenty-foot monsters either!
Great post as always @slobberchops
Thanks.., I occasionally get comments mentioning eeriness, but in most cases it's not like that at all. I do remember my first one, and for sure it was at that time. You get used to it, and it's very normal after a few.
I really like the photos you always share here. Despite being places that are in ruins, you manage to capture them with a very good quality in which you can appreciate every detail to perfection from my point of view.
Greetings! 🙏🏻
😂😂😂 You're an innate and crazy funny fantasy writer for sure my friend!...
Another amazing place from which it seems that some giant creature will really come out, or maybe zombies or vampires, I don't know!...
THANKS for sharing and big appaluse for you @slobberchops friend!

Your Urban Exploration truly fascinates me @slobbershops!
I know I repeat myself when I say these buildings make it hard to imagine that it once was a home or business, filled with life!
Red wine glasses?
I'm not brave enough, or shall I be honest, too old to be stepping through broken floorboards, and, I think it's wise to leave that ladder in your car and not venture upstairs into buildings like that!
Do you have access to public records to check ownership and zoning? Just my curious mind, I do that here when I see abandoned buildings here as our municipal webpage gives access to the property valuation roll.
Useless information I know, but makes one wonder what happened to the property owners!
People don't half have strange symbols printed on their walls!
Fortunately, I nearly always forget they exist. The trouble they would save me at some other places. I can just about pull up my full body weight now, but it's a serious hassle.
I'm exhausted when I get home from a day of this. It's the best exercise.
Love this content. Thanks for share man👽 greetings👋🏻

Someone needed a drink o'clock reminder?
Haha awesome impromptu adventure!
I am always stricken with imagining the history and life as it was before everything falls to pieces. So odd to see these houses abandoned when you can't buy a house the size of a garage here for less than 400k$
On an unrelated note, I got the chance to explore a huge derelict abandoned facility that has been closed to the public as long as I have known. I ran around that place telling my wife I was gonna be world famous like Slobberchops and she just looked strangely at me.
I should spin up my best impersonation of you this week in a post now that I am back!
I might have a little fame HERE, but that's where it ends! Now.. you going into an ancient wreck is great news, I will look out for that one.
