Wednesday Walk - Sunset Walk

Here is a walk in the prairie around sunset time for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay

The humid summer in the prairie is great for capturing sunsets. But these are the easy shots to take, I like to search around for the emerging critters around the time for sunset.

I saw a young buck far off in the distance leaping around the prairie plants. Many deer start emerging once it gets dark.

I think during the day they are mostly laying down on the ground in thick weeds like this. In dark areas like this my zoom lens fails at getting clear shots.

The red-winged blackbirds are easy photos all day long. This guy was acting quite aggressive towards me and it was so close that my zoom lens couldn't even focus on his head.

He must have been protecting his girlfriend here on the prairie grasses. I doubt they have any babies this late in the year but they remain aggressive regardless.

This time of year there are still some monarch larvae. These will be the guys that will eventually migrate all the way down to Mexico to avoid the winter here.

Wherever there is milkweed you can typically find a monarch flying around.

This one decided it liked the pink milkweed better than the orange milkweed.

Now it is getting a bit too dark for my zoom lens and the mosquitos are starting to bite. Better leave all the critters to their nightshift.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

Nice shots of the deer. And monarchs. We have lots of milkweed and monarchs through the summer but it is a bit late for them here.

mosquitos are starting to bite

Mosquitos on the other hand are horrible right now. Plus Eastern equine encephalitis is popping up around Vermont. Funny with names of diseases these days all of them have nicknames. It Triple E now. When I was younger it was just sleeping sickness.

Oomph all the various mosquito born diseases, one year west nile killed almost all the birds here. Monarchs better head to mexico asap before they get frozen. Just today my wife spotted a viceroy thinking it was a monarch.

That prairie area is always great for deer and other wildlife. Trick is getting my zoom lens to cooperate.
