Wednesday Walk - Path to the Swamp
Here is a summer walk to the swamp for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay
This limestone running path goes for miles and miles and spans across quite a few suburbs. I like to take it's side paths to scope out hidden swamps for critters.
I got lucky thanks to some squirrels and birds alerting me to see this red tailed hawk on a dead tree. He is definitely looking to catch something to eat.
Thankfully he stayed for a couple shots before flying off.
This cardinal was quite worried about the hawk and was making his warning call.
This squirrel was also doing the hawk call. It sort of sounds like a squirrel's attempt at mimicking a hawk scream. Poor guy looks to be a bit beat up as he is missing one of his fingers. Maybe the hawk nearly got him last time.
Meanwhile the swamp is infested with duckweed and painted turtles. You can see all sorts of muck trails the turtles make in the duckweed.
Swamps are great for spotting various dragonflies.
I was even lucky enough to see a red admiral land right by me in the bird blind they built near the swamp. Sadly I didn't find any wood ducks or other interesting water birds this time.
Now for a sunset that happened the other night. Summer humidity can make some nice colors if you can be out there at just the right moment.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
The first photo is like the one you can see in a big poster then was hanging in someone's home. So pretty and peaceful. The birds shot are all pretty too, especially the red one.
Thanks, its nice to walk somewhat in the middle of the morning when the light is like that.
WOW what greta shops on your walk my favorite is the cardinal
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
Have a great day :)
Thankfully that cardinal was cooperative this time around.
Great sunset! I think there is some smoke in the air too. At least there is here. Nice hawk captures 👍 I gotta say the first good freeze can't come soon enough for me. I was swatting phantom mosquitoes just looking at that swamp shot 😅
Thankfully the worst of the skeeters are over. We have guys that vaccuum them up over here. But if you go to the more rural preserves the skeeters definitely feast.
A very lovely post! Loved many of the bird photos, and the lush green of the first photo.
Now things are slowly turning colors here. The poplar leaves are already falling.
Same here, and it's a bit early I think.
