Minimal Darkwave on a #straturday
Here's a #straturday in a minimal darkwave style. I've been neglecting my bass for a while so I decided to bring it out and what better genre to feature bass than darkwave. I also used my spectra drive bass pedal to push the signal a bit more than usual rather than try and push the signal digitally. Pedals usually sound way better than software and it turned out sounding really good on the bass. For the strat parts I used my axe fx 2 for the effects. The red strat has an eighth note delay on it so it will repeat one note 8 times which allows you to play very minimally but get an interesting sound that's a bit more elaborate. The partsocaster has an ambient array of effects on it that let it fade into the background as a wash. I also wanted to bring in some mangled sounding synth for the darkwave feel so I used my Akai mpk 3 and rapture as the synth to bring in a simple note progression in the second half of the song. I close out the song with my Stephen Carpenter ESP LTD as it has a longer scale that's easier for the higher up notes on the neck. I created a crazy effects chain in guitar rig 6 for that synthy sound on the guitar. That's all for now, thanks for listening :-)

Darkwave is pretty hilarious from a fashion perspective they all look so miserable and weird. Its pretty close to Russian doomer music from a sound perspective.

Thanks :-). After playing the bass with a bit of tube drive on it from my spectra drive pedal it started sounding like that goth darkwave sound so I just went with it.

I think the delay is just a digital delay that repeats every note 8 times with a high level repeat. Gotta kinda play minimally with that effect as it will create too much feedback with lots of notes. The esp is a Stephen Carpenter 7 string, pretty cool swappable pickups from emg to seymore duncans since they just plug in. Its also baritone scale so playing higher up notes gives you more space to land the notes.
