Turtles for Thursday

Well it looks like I have lots of turtles for my Thursday post.

Now that spring is here the turtle have emerged from hibernation and are filling up every available space on the floating islands on the lake. They love basking in the sun most of the time until something scares them back into the water.

This goose decided to hop up on the island and ended up scaring a bunch of turtles into the lake again.

The goose is probably scoping the islands out for a new nest. Better test out napping on this floating island first though.

Now there are a zillion turtle heads poking up out of the water wondering if they can get a new spot on the island.

They slowly swim back looking for a spot. Real estate is tough to find on the lake.

Its a bit of an arduous process crawling back up for the turtles. Plus other turtles aren't willing to budge an inch to make room for new ones.

Now we have the start of a high rise. Now the turtle on the bottom is not catching enough sun rays.

The funny thing about the floating islands is they slowly spin around on the lake as the wind blows. This creates a sort of carousel of turtles. I just have to wait and take photos of all side of the island as it slowly rotates to get more turtle views.

I didn't see any tiny baby ones though. Perhaps they will hatch a bit later.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-) more turtles soon probably, maybe I'll be fast enough to catch one near the edge next time.

Turtle stacking always reminds me of Yertle the Turtle by Dr Suess.

Are there any Dr Suess books that survived the PC cleansing patrol? I love reading Dr Suess to kids.

I have a picture somewhere of a duck standing on a pile of turtles. They are strange stacking creatures. Lol my mother has loads of Dr Seuss books somewhere in storage, I bet they are worth alot now thanks to the cultural marxist purge of children's books.

Seems there are more this year than last. Maybe some crawled over from the river nearby.
