Squirrel Sunday - Well Fed Fellas
Looks like it is #squirrelsunday again
I took a trip to Starved Rock State Park to look for birds and visit the ice waterfalls. There are a bunch of "bird" feeders next to the visitor center and there are quite a few well fed squirrels there.
They tried hanging this feeder out of the way but the squirrels figured out some sort of acrobatic way of jumping onto the ledge to gorge on the seeds.
Even though the squirrel was hogging the feeder a brave cardinal couldn't wait and landed on the feeder with the squirrel. I'm sure some insults were traded between the two in cardinal and squirrel language.
The younger less acrobatic squirrels hang out under the feeders and fight over territory and seeds. This one looks like the king of the ground game judging by its plump size.
Here's one of the skinnier outlier squirrels that was making barking and growling noises at the fat squirrel. It has to dodge and dive to get any scraps on the outskirts of the feeders.
It also has to compete with the smaller sparrow swarms on the ground.
Finally the skinny squirrel jumped into action scaring all the sparrows away to grab a few sunflower seeds.
Now it is back in the sunlight enjoying its stolen goods.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
I adore these fluffy beings!
Cute but evil.
They are smart too, smart and evil is a dangerous combo.
the squirrels look like someone is taking care of them,, they are very tame
The birds seem to be taking care of them. The feeders were meant for the birds but the squirrels manage to figure out a way to get food out of them.
A good friend always displays a good picture. have a nice day.
Have a nice day too :-) the squirrels are always there for a good picture.
