Squirrel Sunday - Walnut Frenzy

The squirrels are back for another #squirrelsunday

PA103241 copy.jpg
The alpha male squirrels are on the hunt to collect as many large walnuts for winter as possible...

This way they can attract the best females to their winter nests.

The trouble is there are many alpha males in this sector of the forest.

Lots of battles occur on every tree to maintain territory.

In the meantime lower status squirrels are busy collecting smaller acorns to have a survival stash when the snow hits.

Soon all the leaves will fall and it will be even more difficult to find food. It is also slipper fighting other squirrels on piles of leave. You never know when you might disturb ground burrowing wasps.

Domesticated squirrels living near humans have it easier as they will just leave fancy husked walnuts out for them.

PA103285 copy.jpg
For the lazy squirrels that didn't prepare all they can do is eat the rotted leftovers and to check the empty husks for small bits of leftovers.

Some of these guys will have to go to the human houses to beg for food. Help a poor squirrel (puts on most pitiful face possible)...

That's all for now, thanks for looking and remember to help the poor squirrels out every now and then.

I love stories told through photographic images, they look great.

Where I live we don't have squirrels, we don't have that much winter, we really lack that kind of wildlife to live with and I think it would be really nice to be able to help them.

Lovely photos of squirrels in their natural habitat doing what they naturally do.

There are loads of squirrels here, easy to see at least ten of them every time I take a walk. Some are quite tame too.

I find watching squirrels a delightful and relaxing activity.

They are cute and very active.

Haha my wife rented a cabin in oregon and squirrels and other large rodents were constantly in the ceiling. It was on an organic farm so no poisoning was allowed and her neighbor was a militaristic vegan who wouldn't allow killing them. Situation didn't last long out there lol.
