Mushroom Monday - Friend Finds

Here are a few mushroom finds from people I know around the country for this #mushroommonday

My mother in law went hiking up in the mountains of Arizona and found these interesting lichens.

This is the rock they were growing on. She is going to try and keep the ones she harvested alive in a misted terrarium. It will be tricky as lichen are a fungi and algae in sybiosis. If the fungi doesn't have the right substrate then the algae won't be able to survive...

In contrast this is what the lichens look like in my area. These ones mostly feed off wood rather than stone in Arizona.

Here is a strange mushroom growing in my boss' neighbor's hous in California. I have no idea what it is but it kind of reminds me of the mower mushrooms I have in Illinois.

This same neighbor also has loads of these reishi growing out of an old stump in their yard. With time these things will keep growing larger and larger.

Meanwhile back in Illinois these polypores are hatching everywhere from the hot summer rains.

Now they have too much water inside and they are pushing it out in the process of guttation. Eventually this will turn into a reddish looking polypore.

I also found a strange little brittlegill.

Most rusullas and brittlegills in my area aren't very edible. I left this one for the squirrels to eat.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

when in doubt 😊
Those reishi look almost like they are growing out of the ground. I usually see them aways up trees or on a log. Like you mentioned there must be a stump there somewhere. I saw an orange mushroom this morning on my walk but haven't looked a photos. Maybe lobster mushroom but not in great shape in any case.

Ooh it probably was a lobster. They rarely look like they are in good shape but are still quite edible if not all dried out.
