Moose Monday - Deer Checking out the Horses
Here is a curious deer checking out the farm horses for this #moosemonday by @shasta
Last week I went to a local farm to get some honey and ended up taking pictures of the animals and hiking a bit on some trails around the farm. This deer was on the edge of the horse fields looking at me and the horses.
It was sort of dark in the forest here and the photos ended up a bit blurry. But I caught the funny expressions of the deer spying on the strange draft horses out in the open field.
This big guy was licking the salt unaware of the deer spying on it.
What on earth is that horse licking over there. I kind of want to go and give it a try. If you leave salt licks out in the forest you will get deer instinctively looking for salt. Perhaps this gal was waiting for an opportunity to run out in the field and get a lick of that salt.
Horse heard a rustle in the weeds. Is it that strange forest cow coming to take my salt lick again?
The white horse was even closer to the deer on the edge of the field. It didn't seem to care about the deer at all.
In the end the deer chickened out and never ventured out to get a lick of the salt block.
It was funny catching its expressions while observing the huge draft horses. This little gal was probably not even half the size of those horses.
This guy's head is almost half the size of a human. There would be no way a skinny deer could challenge this guy for his salt block.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
Wow, and this deer didn't run away from you? I have never seen a deer up close!
They are very tame over here, sometimes I think that they think I have a treat for them or something.
how are horses even real? shouldnt there be a lot more ridable animals that evolved?
exactly, they didnt, the anunaki created them with intelligent alien design lol the animal that evolved on another planet probably originally looked like a pegasus deer thing
Haha there were some strange extinct horse creatures with toes instead of hooves that died out with the mammoths and mastodons. https://www.equineguelph.ca/equimania/EvolutionTimeline/eohippus.html
Thanks @ackhoo :-)
ahh my brother ackhoo
Nope, the deer would have no change getting to the salt.
Funny expressions indeed. O it so wanted that salt hahaha 🤣
Maybe a herd of deer could move the draft horse from his salt lol.
They need to come up with a strategic plan… 📜 lol
Get his attention of it, so he walks away.
You should have gotten a small piece of salt and throw it into the woods for that poor deer! She looked quite desperate!
Now I know how to get a good photoshoot of deer, just put a salt block in the forest.
That’s a good investment! Salt isn’t exorbitantly expensive!
Lovely animals
That farm is a great place to find both domesticated and wild animals.
Elon Musk agrees
@sketch.and.jam, your shots are amazing.
I love being able to see through the eyes of those animals, so much peace, so much purity that is only found in the animal kingdom.
Big hug
Its always nice to see deer in the forest, though you definitely have to check yourself later to see if there are any ticks crawling on you. They tend to have lots of them.
they are both in the same quasi equine family ARENT THEY?
I looked it up and they are quite different from each other. Though visually the kind of look similar. At best they are both mammals in terms of what is common with them.
Excellent images and even better post @sketch.and.jam
What program have you used to animate the photo of the fawn looking towards the camera?
I just spliced them together in photoshop using the animation menu.
I keep looking at that deer... does it have salt on its nose? Could be. We caught the horse pull at the local fair last year. It was really cool. Think tractor pull but with a team of two draft horses. Draft horses are awesome beasts.
They are massive muscle machines. Sometimes this farm does plow demonstrations with them, I missed it this year but maybe this fall I'll be able to catch the horse show that features all sorts of horse breeds doing various jumps and dressage. I think maybe the deer was drooling at the sight of that salt lick.

Love seeing the horses and deer! Those gentle giants
will surely share some salt block! :-)
Must of been awesome to see them all!
Thanks, its always fun to visit the draft horses, this time I got a bonus deer nearby. It would have been nice if the deer got close enough to the horses for a size comparison, it would probably look like a little dog compared to the horse.
I missed out on my Monday? Cool shots!
