Feathered Friends - This Week's Sightings

Here are a few sightings from this week.

Summer heat is great for the tree swallows.

They like to sit and pose nicely. I'm still hoping to get a shot of one with a bug in its mouth one day.

Here is a strange woodpecker I've never seen before.
P8142436 copy.jpg
I thought it might be a black backed woodpecker but maybe it is a juvenile of some other species...

Now for some duck yoga. Very balanced on the precarious rocks.

This one can stand one footed on a floating log.

Finally got a decent shot of a blue jay. They are quite common here but are bad at sitting for a shot.

As usual there are lots of sparrows sitting on the power lines everywhere. They have exploded in number this year because there are so many cicadas to eat.

Starlings are quite numerous too. Loads of them can be seen over the prairies. This batch wasn't quite forming a murmur, that's another shot I hope to catch one day.

That's all for now, thank for looking :-)

The yoga Duck look so funny.
But it is one of the things that they master well isn't it?

I always wonder why they decide to stand on one leg like that.

Looks like you had a good week :) The woodpecker might stay in the area if it's an adult. Might be worth keeping an eye out for it.

I almost wonder if it a juvenile pileated woodpecker. It was fairly large.

Interesting wood pecker 🤔 we came home from our trip and the baby robins have left the nest but there are some baby fly catchers over our front door. Spring is fun 🙂

Yeah I haven't been able to pinpoint an ID on that guy so its probably in juvenile territory. Maybe you'll get a second batch of robins soon. Have you ID'd the flycatchers?

I think the couple may be Eastern Wood-Pewee. I will get a better look once it stops raining 🙄

Ah I like the sound of the pewee. I have yet to get a good shot of one though. Keep an eye out for shrooms after so much rain.

All it would take is a tiny nudge from a turtle below to bring that duck off balance lol.
