Feathered Friday - Yellow Rump and Other Sightings
Here are this week's sightings for #featheredfriday
I thought this yellow rumped warbler was just a sparrow in the thickets at first. Thankfully I decided to look through the zoom lens a bit closer and realized it was a warbler.
I'm surprised I was able to get the camera focused through all the weeds. Fortunately the warbler stayed still long enough for me to finagle the camera focus.
I had been just taking photos of cactus in a rock garden.
Thankfully the rock garden had lots of nature and I was focused on this little chipmunk before spotting the yellow rumped warbler.
There was also a somewhat sickly looking sparrow in the rock garden. I wonder if it is just molting or if it has mites of some sort causing its feathers to be spotty.
Now its time to visit the pond nearby. A couple of swans are always at this lake.
Then off in the distance I noticed a pie billed grebe.
Fortunately this one was tame and didn't dive under and swim to the other side of the lake.
I was able to get as close to the edge of the water for a better shot. I could tell it was a bit leery of me approaching but it still didn't swim away.
Now the sun is setting and all I could get was a dove silhouette.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
Beautiful photos of nature.
Thanks, I was lucky to be in an active spot for critters.
Thanks :-)
Nice capture of the warbler. How much zoom do you have? Fun shot of the chipmunk getting a drink. I don't know if I've ever seen one drinking 🤔
I only have around 200mm of zoom with an extension ring that gives it a tiny bit more zoom maybe 280 total. I've been oggling a sony mirrorless camera and zoom lens for about 2k. The chippy needed some water to wash down that bitter acorn.
Oh wow some great observations!
Its great to find a place where all the creatures are easy to find. Often I'll go out to a spot and it will be too windy or hot and nothing will be out, not even the chipmunks or sparrows.
I like this chunky guy
I'm glad he was tame enough to stay long enough for a photo. They are all packing their cheeks prepping for winter around here.
