Feathered Friday - Taxidermy
I found a bunch of taxidermied feathered friends at a wildlife center for this #featheredfriday
Nothing like a gawky swan coming in for a landing hanging by strings from the ceiling...
Here is another one perched on possibly a fox pelt.
This one appears to be a red tailed hawk. I wonder what company makes all the eyes for taxidermists?
Here are some Alice's Thrushes perched nicely on a branch with examples of their eggs. I have no idea why they put the additional one on the ground with a tag, seems to ruin the display lol.
This appears to be an accident but the canvas back duck kind of looks like it has a turtle shell poking out of the lake along with it.
Here is a super rare specimen of a Mallard duck head.
A much fancier specimen of a wood duck, pheasant and a duck that had no label.
This looks like a mud hen and some kind of snipe with another wood duck.
The taxidermist decided to make an action figure out of this red tail hawk.
The rest of this area has many live animals like turtles, lizards and snakes. My daughter loved climbing up the stepping stools to look at critters.
I just hope some of these exhibits don't give her nightmares lol, A jar of bats?
Poor bambi got turned into a specimen.
Here's a huge bear that was too big for my daughter to register as an animal. She probably thought it was a tree or something like that.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

its a bit sat to see these dead animals but the "Thrushes" are really beautiful.
I know, that's the old fashioned way naturalists used to record various species. I suspect quite a few of these ones are preserved from various wildlife sanctuaries. They take in a few birds that are injured and I suspect if they die of old age or from their injuries they end up being taxidermied.
The display of birds and animals was interesting, but I felt sad seeing those who had died preserved.
😂 funny that people assign these kind of thought to dogs and you have to sit back and say thats just anthropomorphism but you are probably actually right about your daughter.
This display runs from really cool to really creepy. The big posed birds - cool. The jars full of random specimens - creepy. Random dead bird - creepy. 😅
Those specimen jars are quite creepy, who knows if they taste like pickles by now. The live animal exhibits were cool to plenty of reptiles and rodents, I'm sure if any of them kick the bucket they will end up in the taxidermy exhibit or if they were bad maybe in one of the pickle jars.
