Feathered Friday - More Swamp Birds

Here are a few shots from another swamp I visited this week for #featheredfriday by @melinda010100

Here is a good monomad photo of the swamp. All sorts of Canadian geese and other ducks like to graze on duckweed here.

The swampy areas are really infested this year. At least the ducks and geese are eating well.

The prairie weeds next to the swamp are full of goldfinches.

I often crash through the prairie weeds and notice the goldfinches only a few feet from me. By the time I raise up my camera they fly off.

It has been a bit hot and humid lately, many of the usual birds I see are molting. This robin might be a juvenile or just be molting heavily...

As I neared the other side of he swamp I saw a group of wood ducks and they flew off before I could get a shot of them. They left behind a bunch of footprints in the mud lol.

They escaped into the middle of the sludge.

They eventually merged with a group of loud honking geese.

Here is another group of wood ducks on their favorite dead branch perches next to the reeds. One of these days I have to crash through the reeds from the other side to try and get a closeup shot of these shy wood ducks.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

I think you did exceedingly well @dketch.and.jam given the challenges of the pond and sludge. I love your shots, it is a shame birds do not pose, hahaha. We would really get fantastic shots wouldn't we?

They have a sixth sense, right when my camera focuses on them they often fly away. Cardinals are especially good at doing this.

Makes for fun conversations though. The doves only need to hear movement from a distance and fly off. But the other morning I came out to lots of feathers and a couple of shredded parts of what was obviously a dove. So upsetting to see. Obviously a cat visited during the night😐

Thanks, swamps are full of strange birds. Most are too cloaked by the prairie grasses and weeds.
