Hoy he traído otro acetato, otro LP, esta vez un compilatorio con canciones de muy buenos artistas de la década de 1980, específicamente del año 1986, y se trata del disco aniversario por los 25 años de Amnistía Internacional, el cual se titula Conspiracy of Hope (Conspiración de la Esperanza). Los artistas y bandas que están incluidos en este long play son: Bryam Adams, Dire Straits, Peter Gabriel, Elton John, Howard Jones, Paul McCartney, John Cougar Mellencamp, Simple Minds, Sting, Tears for Fears, Steve Winwood, todos estupendos músicos de esa década.
Today I have brought another LP, this time a compilation with songs by very good artists from the 1980s, specifically from the year 1986, and it is the anniversary album for the 25 years of Amnesty International, which is entitled Conspiracy of Hope. The artists and bands that are included in this long play are: Bryam Adams, Dire Straits, Peter Gabriel, Elton John, Howard Jones, Paul McCartney, John Cougar Mellencamp, Simple Minds, Sting, Tears for Fears, Steve Winwood, all great musicians of that decade.

Para ser franca, no sé si Amnistía Internacional habrá editado otro disco aniversario. Sí oí, en alguna oportunidad, que había una edición con músicos hispanos, pero ese no tuve la suerte de comprarlo; ahora bien, con respecto al que les traje hoy, como ven, esta portada es muy impactante: Es una vela blanca encendida, envuelta en un alambre de púas, alambre que generalmente se usa en las trincheras de guerra, y podría interpretarse un mensaje de que la esperanza sobrevive, se mantiene y está presente, aún en los terrenos y circunstancias más adversas.
To be honest, I don't know if Amnesty International has released another anniversary album. I did hear on some occasion that there was an edition with Hispanic musicians, but I was not lucky enough to buy it; Now, regarding the one I brought you today, as you can see, this cover is very impressive: It is a lit white candle, wrapped in barbed wire, wire that is generally used in war trenches, and it could be interpreted as a message of that hope survives, is maintained and is present, even in the most adverse terrain and circumstances.
El día que compré este acetato, no podía creer lo que tenía en mis manos: Un compilado maravilloso, con varios de los mejores artistas de los 80’ y todos cantando en pro de un ideal altruista y maravilloso como es la paz mundial, y eso me encantó, me sentí súper identificada y feliz de haber encontrado aquel tesoro en mi discotienda de siempre. Para que puedan comprender mi felicidad, es preciso que les ofrezca un dato histórico, y es que en esos años de finales de los 80, el infame Muro de Berlín, aquella fortificación que dividió a una ciudad y a un país en dos áreas opuestas; estaba en vías de desaparecer, debido a las múltiples presiones tanto de los ciudadanos alemanes como de los gobiernos de otras naciones, y según recuerdo, este evento sensibilizó mucho a la juventud de la época, porque nos hizo ver cuán dañina puede ser la violencia fraticida, la guerra entre hermanos. Recuerdo claramente los conciertos, y las protestas que se hacían en Estados Unidos y en Europa, pidiendo la demolición del mencionado muro, y esto lo veía yo en los telediarios, periódicos y revistas de ese entonces, (les recuerdo que no existía Internet, ni televisión por cable, y menos MTV).
The day I bought this acetate, I couldn't believe what I had in my hands: A wonderful compilation, with several of the best artists of the 80's and all singing for an altruistic and wonderful ideal such as world peace, and that I loved it, I felt super identified and happy to have found that treasure in my usual disco store. So that you can understand my happiness, it is necessary that I offer you a historical fact, and it is that in those years of the end of the 80s, the infamous Berlin Wall, that fortification that divided a city and a country into two opposite areas; was in the process of disappearing, due to multiple pressures from both German citizens and the governments of other nations, and as I recall, this event greatly sensitized the youth of the time, because it made us see how harmful fratricidal violence can be , the war between brothers. I clearly remember the concerts, and the protests that took place in the United States and Europe, calling for the demolition of the aforementioned wall, and I saw this on the news, newspapers and magazines of that time (I remind you that there was no Internet, nor cable TV, let alone MTV).
Este disco en particular fue puesto a la venta por la disquera Sonográfica, y como pueden ver tiene el sello Mercury, supongo que es una asociación con esta otra compañía. Este disco venía forrado con un papel celofán transparente y traía su sello de garantía, lo que no recuerdo era si llevaba incluido o no un cancionero; lo que sí tiene es una breve reseña de Amnistía Internacional en la contraportada. El precio de venta al público que tiene marcado, es de 75,00 Bolívares de la época, que serían aproximadamente 3,78 dólares americanos de ese momento, (ver fuente anexa). Aquí les comparto otras fotos de esta joya, que está algo deteriorada su carátula, pero el acetato está entero.
This particular album was released by the Sonographic label, and as you can see it's under the Mercury label, I guess it's a partnership with this other company. This disc was covered with a transparent cellophane paper and brought its guarantee seal, what I don't remember was if it included a songbook or not; what it does have is a brief Amnesty International profile on the back cover. The retail price marked on it is 75.00 Bolívares at the time, which would be approximately 3.78 US dollars at that time (see attached source). Here I share other photos of this jewel, whose cover is somewhat damaged, but the acetate is intact.
Ahora vamos con mis canciones / Now let's go with my songs
La primera que quiero recomendar es la canción de John Cougar Mellecamp, “Pink Houses”, una melodía que me atrapó primero por el ritmo, pues es una interesante fusión entre música country y rock, y luego por la letra. Yo para ese momento sólo había oído a Kenny Rogers en alguna u otra canción country, y al oír esta canción con una armonía tan bella, simplemente me encantó. No compartiré la letra, ya que es muy extensa y es una canción de protesta ante la segregación racial. Aquí les dejo el video para que la oigan y la disfruten.
The first one I want to recommend is the song by John Cougar Mellecamp, “Pink Houses”, a melody that caught me first because of the rhythm, since it is an interesting fusion between country and rock music, and then because of the lyrics. At that time I had only heard Kenny Rogers in one or another country song, and hearing this song with such beautiful harmony, I just loved it. La siguiente canción que quiero recomendarles, es “Ghostdancing”, a cargo de la estupenda banda escocesa Simple Minds. Yo ya había oído sus éxitos “Don't You (Forget About Me)” y "Alive and Kicking", y creo que por esa preferencia, y obviamente por la calidad de la canción, me decanté por esta otra; la cual es una bella canción, con mucha fuerza, que en su letra refleja parte de los conflictos mundiales de aquel entonces. Compartiré este trocito de la letra con ustedes:
The next song I want to recommend is “Ghostdancing”, by the great Scottish band Simple Minds. I had already heard their hits “Don't You (Forget About Me)” and "Alive and Kicking", and I think because of that preference, and obviously because of the quality Of the song, I opted for this other one; which is a beautiful song, with great force, which in its lyrics reflects part of the world conflicts of that time. I'll share this bit of lyrics with you:
Para finalizar, mi tercera recomendación de este disco compilatorio por los 25 Años de Amnistía Internacional, es esta melodía del cantante británico Steve Winwood, titulada “Higher love”, una interesante canción en donde la fusión de ritmos se hace presente, y es muy pegajosa. Es una canción que sonó mucho en las emisoras de radio de ese entonces, e incluso en las discotecas y minitecas, sin embargo, tiene una letra profunda que también me atrapó. Miren esta belleza de letra:
Finally, my third recommendation from this compilation album for 25 Years of Amnesty International is this tune by the British singer Steve Winwood, entitled “Higher love”, an interesting song where the fusion of rhythms is present, and it's very catchy. It's a song that played a lot on radio stations back then, and even in discos and mini-tecas, however, it has deep lyrics that also caught me. Look at this beauty of lyrics:

Wow that is a nice mix of artists from all the way back in 1986!! Quality stuff, it must have been tricky to whittle it down to just three and then pick just one tune from each, but you managed it!
