Hello dear friends,

Today, with my post, I bring you to the discovery of another interesting village in Garfagnana, this part of Tuscany that, in my opinion, might be less important in terms of tourism but is very interesting both from a naturalistic and artistic point of view. Here, there are several important villages, some of which I have already shown you.

Today, however, I take you to the discovery of Sassorosso, a village with 70 inhabitants that gets its name from the color of the rock extracted nearby for years. This rock is very important, as I have understood, and has been extracted for many years. The village itself was built at the foot of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.

As soon as I arrived on the small road leading to the village, I noticed that from the village itself you could see a beautiful panorama of the surrounding valley. It was immediately very beautiful to walk through the inner streets of this place; very charming, I must say.

An interesting fact: many years ago, in 1888 to be exact, the maternal grandparents of Astor Piazzolla, the famous Argentine musician, left from these places. Indeed, it was in Argentina that his mother Assunta was born. I regret not having had the chance to visit a museum set up nearby to remember this important musician of Italian origins but Argentine in every respect.

I must say that the village is not very large; you can tour it in a few hours. There are always quite challenging staircases, and the village is practically exposed to the sun, so I advise against visiting in the summer because it gets really hot, even though we are in a hilly area.

Here, too, I found many cats roaming undisturbed through the streets of this beautiful village, and this could only make me very happy. I stopped several times, not only to pet these charming little animals but also because some views of these streets are really like scenes from a movie.

If you notice in the construction of the houses, some of which have been restored, this red volcanic rock is present. They say it retains heat during the winter, making these homes even more welcoming and warm.

I hope you liked the photos I shared. See you in my next post, and I wish you all a good and happy day!
