Lost in the Beauty: My Unforgettable Journey to the Hermitage of Capraia
Hello dear friends,
Once again, I'm here with you today to share some photos and my story about exploring this very special place in Tuscany. I'm sure that anyone who has visited Tuscany as a tourist may not know about this place, a location deeply connected to spirituality, but which I find very beautiful because it is set in a stunning natural environment.
Today, I want to tell you about the Hermitage of Capraia, a beautiful place of peace located in the heart of Garfagnana. It is practically built on a rocky outcrop that overlooks the valley, and besides offering a breathtaking view, there is truly an atmosphere of peace and tranquility at the hermitage.
Let’s just say that getting to this place wasn't easy. In fact, I had to follow a path, but my sense of direction is nonexistent. Additionally, since I wasn't sure if I could reach this place by car, I had to leave it a few kilometers away from the hermitage.
I was also very unlucky because I was hoping to find someone along this path, but I didn't encounter anyone, so I had to manage on my own, with great difficulty.
However, after taking a few wrong turns, I eventually found the road that led me to this place, where now there is a church dedicated to Santa Maria, built later in 1871. This church stands where the hermitage once was, which dated back to the 12th century and was dedicated to Saints James and Christopher.
From my point of view, it's truly a shame that this hermitage was replaced by the church because a hermitage seems perfectly suited to a setting like this, which is immersed in nature.
Of course, getting lost on these paths allowed me to better appreciate these places. Sometimes, I think that taking the wrong road can be the best thing we can do because it allows us to better appreciate what we find along the way. In fact, I came across several houses that probably date back to the medieval era, and it was very exciting for me.
In the end, I didn’t stay close to the Hermitage for too long because it was already time to head home, but I’ll definitely take the opportunity to return here. Next time, I’ll bring someone along, like my friend Carlo, who lives just a few kilometers away. Maybe he can help me find a shortcut to the Hermitage.
I hope that you enjoyed the photos I shared, and I’ll see you in the next post. As always, I wish you all a good day!
