Albiano: A Hidden Tuscan Gem of Tranquility and Art

As I mentioned yesterday, today I’m sharing a post about another place that I think is worth visiting if you're planning a trip to Tuscany. I can’t remember if I’ve already talked about this place, which I had the fortune to visit in the past. But as I always say, every time you visit a place like this, it feels like the first time again. There’s always something different that changes your perspective, but above all, your emotions.

So today I present to you Albiano, a beautiful hamlet of the municipality of Barga in the province of Lucca. Let's start by mentioning that there aren't too many inhabitants here—about 166 people live in this village, which is still quite a number, especially considering that some villages are almost uninhabited. This beautiful place is located at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level, so we’re in a hilly area.

The first thing that strikes you about this place is the sight of these houses built entirely out of stone, and you can see different types of stone, as shown in some of the photos I’ve taken.

Then, as usual, I started my walk along the streets of this characteristic village, and I was able to admire the architecture of the place, as well as the fact that it is immersed in a typically Tuscan landscape with lush vegetation.
As I continued, I also noticed how people are preparing for winter. I saw several stacks of wood, probably because the main heating sources here are stoves and fireplaces.

I must say that some of these houses have beautiful terraces or, to be more precise, they are really well set up to have a comfortable outdoor space, either for sunbathing or simply to enjoy the fresh air.

What I always love about these places is that there are always little artistic details that, to be honest, I didn’t notice last time. For example, statues embedded in a wall, small sculptures hidden among some flowerbeds—there’s always something artistic to discover.

In conclusion, coming to walk in places like this is always a balm for both the mind and the body. It’s truly a wonderful experience, and by the way, I didn’t run into any of the 166 permanent residents here. I imagine winters are quite harsh in these parts, but the peace and tranquility you find in places like this are truly unique.
