A Hidden Gem in Tuscany: Discovering Badiaccia a Montemuro and Its Culinary Delights
Hello dear friends,
Today I realized that when I mentioned the locality of Dudda here in the community, in the province of Siena, I forgot to share some photos of a small hamlet in the municipality of Radda in Chianti called Badiaccia a Montemuro. It’s quite a peculiar name, and in my opinion, it evokes a bit of the Tuscan tradition.
This place is located in a hilly area about 700 meters above sea level. The village sits on the slopes of Monte San Michele. I discovered this place by chance because I stopped to eat at the "Il Rifugio del Chianti" inn, a place I definitely recommend because it is truly reliable. It’s a traditional spot that has been around for many years, and I noticed that even some quite famous and important people have dined there.
This time I remembered to take photos, and I still recall the delicious platter of cold cuts and cheeses as a starter, which was an absolute delight for my palate.
For the first course, I had a very tasty pasta with tomato sauce, but what I loved the most was the second course—a braised beef with potatoes, where the meat literally melted in my mouth. I must say that in Tuscany, the meat is truly excellent, and you eat really well.
The desserts were also very good, and they were all homemade in a very artisanal way, which I think is really important. Additionally, I discovered that they have a small area where you can buy local products like cold cuts and cheeses to take home.
After this interesting and important lunch, I decided to take a walk to digest a little in this small village. I found out that there are the remains of an ancient abbey here, although most of the houses you see in the photos are now vacation rentals, because, unfortunately, business has taken over in this area as well.
However, we should also look at the positive side: if someone hadn’t invested here, everything would probably be in a state of decay. Even though there weren't many tourist attractions, it was still a very interesting walk. I managed to take a few photos to share with you, and you always notice something interesting, especially in terms of architecture. Even here, the narrow streets winding through the village are truly tight.
I hope you enjoyed the photos I shared. This is definitely a place to keep in mind, mostly because of the inn, which I think is worth stopping by for a meal. The prices were also quite reasonable, and they’re very fair for the quality of the food they offer.
See you in my next post, and I wish you all a great day!
