Twitter, Elon Musk and a Michigan Sandwich

I use Twitter...

  • There I have gone and said it.
  • I know it's centralized media, and I should support decentralized media, which I do. But I believe that popular saying...You don't get many church converts preaching to the church choir.
  • You have to go to where the people are who need God, not those who have already found God.
  • Same thing for cryptocurrency, the blockchain and decentralization.
  • So I write here on a decentralized platform, but advertise my posts, and the posts of others from Leofinance on Twitter.

Twitter is a privately owned public forum.

  • Many communities rely on Twitter to stay upto date on the news in their community.
  • And many rely on it to spread news about their projects and communities.
  • It is used a lot by the public.
  • But like most Web 2.0 tools, it is centralized and privately owned.
  • And no matter how many times people say it is a public forum, it is privately owned, and private ownership is a cornerstone of capitolism and civilization.
  • So.. we all need to acknowledge that fact and act accordingly.

Elon Musk, Twitter and Web 2.0 versus Web 3.0

  • While I understand there's a learning curve for Elon Musk in his quest to run Twitter, and being human he will make mistakles and possibly even change his mind...
  • I know some will find this shocking: Who does he think he is, to change his mind aboyut something after learning more about it? LOL :)
  • But honestly, I don't think I am a Fanboy of Elon's just someone trying to be fair, and I think he definately is being held up to the light and scrutinized pretty carefully.
  • And low and behold he is a human after all. (not an AI.
  • The world will just have to learn to accept the truth, whenever a human is in charge, mistakes will be made, and biases will be shown..
  • These are human characteristics, and a word to the wise for journalists: I know your doing what you think is your job, but always pointing out the bad, and never the good, doesn't make people like you.
  • And yes Twitter is a private business, so if he suspends you for critcizing him, these are the rules of Web Two. I say come join us on Web three if you want to control your account, your content and avoid censorship!

A Michigan Sandwich

  • I know you have been waiting anxiously for me to explain what food has to do with Elon, Twitter and this great discourse occurring on Twitter about Free Speech, Private Ownership and Fixing the worlds problems! :)
  • Well Michigan is a state, in the United States of America, and although I don't live there, it's a beautiful place to visit in the winter to ski and in the summer to watch speedboat races...decadent capitolist hobbies for sure...
  • Being a midwestern state, in the USA, it is controlled by a culture of politeness.
  • And part of this culture encourages people to construct a sandwich while talking to people, if they have something bad to say.
  • For those os you who have never heard of a sandwich, it is two pieces of bread with something in between, like meat. So in a conversational sense a sandwich is three things.
  • A Michigan Sandwich is three topics, one nice thing to say about someone, one criticism, and a second nice thing.
  • So the Take oOme Lesson Here is... Journalists should say something nice about Elon, like he is tall, handsome or smart...
  • Or if that's to ridiculous just say something which is objective like successful business owner, inventor of cutting edge technology, or facilitatior of human use of cutting edge technology...
  • Then say something like your acting like a human being and suspending the Twitter Accounts of people who say things which you don't like.
  • And then the third part if something nice again, like you have been compared to Thomas Edison.
  • The point is No one likes someone who only says bad things, unlike you have hired them to specifically say only the things your doing wrong.

Elon is human, and the reporting on him is often harsh, so is it really a wonder he doesn't like you?

  • Remember fair and balanced reporting is interpreted by most of us on the planet as saying what's good and what's bad in terms of facts, and less interpetation.
  • Tell me the facts, all of them please, and let me interpret it.
  • And if these journalists can't find anything good to say, I have to question their skill as journalists, writers and as critical thinkers.
  • News Flash Everything Elon says isn't going to perfect, good, right, etc.. but somethings he does are great, others are good, and some are right.
  • So I think he is worthy of being given the benefit of the doubt,as in not everything he does is for ill or evil intent.

The last bites of this post..

  • I hope people in journalism start using the Michigan Sandwich to make their stories easier to bite into and chew on.. in a metaphorical sense, of course.
  • Because we need to savor the meat of those stories by chewing on it and digesting it properly in our minds.
  • The words sprinkled on top of it shouldn't be so bitter that we spit it out right away. Then we don't benefit from whatever good stuff is insde.

:)

Bottom line is that Elon owns twitter. He may allow the rest of us to play in his sandbox, but ultimately he's the one who's going to discover — perhaps through experience/trial-and-error — that there are certain things he just doesn't want in his sandbox.

The the Free Speech punters are all going to get their shorts in a twist... but in the end, we really don't have uncontrolled free speech without rules and boundaries. It's been tried, and the result invariably becomes something along the lines of Slab City, California. Problem being that those who insist on free speech without ANY boundaries typically are wanting that because they are (often sociopaths) engaged in some kind of activity that is harmful to others, in some way.

It'll be interesting to see how the whole twitter circus unfolds!

I agree. Life is complicated, and even something as seemingly simple as Free Speech is complicated.

Elon owns twitter and he can do what he wants. While it is way better than the previous people in control, that won't change. He bought Twitter to also make it profitable and at some point, it won't always move in the direction of the average user.

I agree. Ownership is control, and the first step towards Free Speech. Your Free Speech, as the owner.
