Male Belted Kingfisher Shot #82

Good evening Hive family and all the photographers, hope all is well with you and your photography or whatever it is that makes you happy in this world. What I have today, finally after weeks and weeks of trying to capture a really good shot of this Belted Kingfisher, success. This is absolutely my favorite shot so far for this male Belted Kingfisher. I'll tell you this these little guys are fast and they spook so easy that its hard to get close but on this day I finally got the shot I'm proud of. This is the bird that it seems every photographer that is out at the local lake and hot spot, they are trying to capture this guy right here. A month ago this and the female one that I've seen here, were not even around. So it must be that season, now what really sucks is I got some shot's with a fish in its mouth but it was just a little to far out for me to get a quality one but I will post some decent ones, one of these days. It's scientific name is Megaceryle alcyon and they are of least concern when looking at the endangered species list. So that's good because I really like these guys. Hopefully one day I catch a good in flight of them but for now only a couple of 80% type ones, maybe I post one day but not to sure. These are small but stocky looking birds with large heads and the Mohawk from I like to call it. They have a feathery chest, long thick, pointed of a straight bill. They are like a powdery blue with some white underbelly parts, as well as a blue breast. They females have some brown on the chest or also like a band that looks rusty in color. They are perched a lot on streams, lakes etc, while they fly over rivers and lakes with a loud bird rattling call. They hunt for fish by plunging with their head first right into the water. From the perch or they also hover in the air a lot and then take that plunge right into the water for fish. Its actually pretty cool thing to see. I will post a few more single shot posts of this guy in the future for I am proud of these and they should get the recognition they deserve but I cant control that, it is what it is.
