Troy (2004)
History-based films have a poor reputation for distorting tale plots from history, as our native peoples said, but Troy has a unique story that was created by the writer, and she may have taken some elements from history and some from his notion, but not everything, I believe. Here we compare what happened, the movie is terrible. I've read the Illiad many times, I am sure here in the movie, not the exact thing is filmed.
The movie is never able to explain the exact story. I don't see how Achilles can grieve so much for a cousin, sure he's been teaching him and most of the things done by him, but the reaction to his death simply had no character development and the other thing is Achilles was 16 when he came to War, he could've killed Hector the moment he came but he waited 8 years that is the weakest part of this film. In the original Iliad, Thetis gave Patroclus a prophecy that Hector will fall first, and only then will Achilles die, and on the part of the courses, in the actual Illiad, it was Apollo himself who guided the arrow of Paris, physically standing there, Thetis gave Achillis' armor made by Hephaestus himself. Athena was the patron of Odysseus, it's strange he was never mentioned in the movie.
The movie chooses the most terrific combo, in the old versions of the Illiad Patroclus was a competent soldier, and Achilles was just an extraordinary warrior, but later the writers made the two lovers considering how grief-stricken Achillis' was after his death, but the movie makes Patroclus a cousin, not even a henchman because that tends to have an emotional attachment, and Briseis was the point of conflict of Agamemnon it originated from there, he gave her back after Patroclus' death only, instead it makes it extremely simple. I don't see any attachment, the script writer here wasn’t able to show higher skill to combine or mix the character.
Yeah and it lacked action, Achillis was the kind of a warrior who attacked a river god could fight with, he far surpassed Hector's skill, could fight with 20 people, so a thumbs down on that too.
The fact that this movie had a lot of negative reviews and left some dissatisfied may not be a function of its quality, the caliber of actors, or that it was an aberration of history but rather that it was distressing to watch and left viewers more emotionally involved than they would have preferred -hallmarks of a good movie. I have to say it was a great story. It took a while to forgive the writer and really appreciate the story. Till 2022 few movies can compete and a lot have tried to mimic.
This movie is certainly going to keep you sitting tight on your couch. The intense action scenes do make you feel as if they did it yesterday, hats off to Achilles and Prince Hector for their unmatched bravery. Overall, it was a nice effort in rolling the movie.

And they never explain about the arrow that hit the heel of Achilles. Why it is so important.
