🇻🇳 Hi guys! Today I would like to share with you an authentic recipe to cook Tom Yam Kung - Thai Hot & Sour Creamy Soup with Tiger Prawn which is the most famous Thai dish in Thailand and worldwide well known too. Recently Tom Yum Kung also being nominated for inclusion on UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list. (🍲Spicy Soup = Tom Yam /🦐Prawn or Shrimp = Kung)

There are 2 type of Tom Yam. Clear and Creamy which is the addition of Thai Chili Paste and evaporated milk. People sometimes assume that the creamy version is made from coconut milk but it’s definitely not! 😀 If using the coconut milk, it'll changes from Tom Yum into Tom Kha which I would like to share with you guys another time too. 😆
 

Tom Yam Kung is a creamy spicy sour soup with the delicious sea tiger prawn, sassy sour lime, fragrant lemon grass, hot chili, fresh galangal root and aromatic kaffir lime leaf. This potential herbal mixture is well known for medicinal properties. 😁

Ingredients

 

  • 2 Cup of water
  • 2 stalks of lemongrass
  • 2 inches chunk of galangal
  • 5 kaffir lime leaves
  • 10 chilies
  • 2 Tablespoon of Thai Shallots
  • 300 Gram of Straw Mushroom
  • 500 Gam Tiger Prawn
  • 1 Cup of Evaporated Milk
  • 2 Tablespoon of Chili Paste
  • 2 tablespoons of fish sauce (depending on your taste)
  • 2 limes (10 - 15 limes)
  • 5 Long Coriander
  • Pinch of Salt

Instruction

 

  • Cleaning and Peeling the prawns shell and take the black line at the back away but left the tail and head. Sprinkle the baking soda and rinse it with running water after 2 minutes then using the scissors trim the leg under the head.

  • Heat up a pot over stove.

  • Bring the water and add lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves and salt to a boil for 10 minutes and move all the herbs away. ( Herbs is just for aroma soup reason, not for eat)

  • Add the shallots, chili paste then drop half of prawns which just cook it for 1 minute each side then move aside. Do the same and another half. (to avoid over cook the prawns)

  • Pour the fish sauce, mushroom, Lime, milk and chili to the pot.

  • Gathering the ingredients to the bowl and garnish with slide of limes, kaffir lime leaves, chili and coriander.
