I woke up with a parade in my head this morning
Kevin Morby - Parade
If I were to die today
Puppet in that great charade
The last thing that you'd hear me say
Is bury me in different shapes
Of the parade
I don't mean for this to sound dark or anything, but I woke up with the line "If I were to die today..." in my head today from this song. I haven't listened to it in a while. Truth be told, I wasn't even sure what song it was. That's the way it works sometimes. I've got a line or two in my head from a song I've heard, but I don't know what song it is based solely on that.
In my head, the line was "if I were to die today, I would be okay." That's not in the song anywhere. But I knew that it also had the word parade in it, so I searched for those lyrics and added the word parade and I found it.
This song ended up on a playlist I made on Spotify and that's how I know it. As I mentioned yesterday, I don't use Spotify anymore, but I really did like how easy it was to quickly make a playlist of good music there. It also has an unconventional lofi outro that almost sounds like another song, but I like it.
Overall, the song is pretty simple. Not acoustic, but not drenched in distortion. Just slightly psychedelic, perhaps. Mid tempo, almost lazy-sounding. That's the way I like it!
I'm not super familiar with Kevin Morby, but I always like what I hear from him. He was also in a band called Woods with which I am also vaguely familiar and always remember liking. I should probably explore more of it, but there's just so much music in the world, and I end up usually listening to a lot of the same things over and over again for spells, until I move on to something else. I was about to write "he's pretty young for having released so many albums" because he was born in 1988, but then I realized that he's already in his thirties and that I only think he's young because I'm so old.
Been listening to people talking more than music these days
I haven't even been listening to a ton of music lately because I've been listening to a lot of podcasts and books instead. It doesn't matter whether or not I listen to music on any given day, though... I still end up waking up with songs in my head every single morning.
Right now, I'm trying to work my way through this recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, which is both informative and infuriating. It would seem as though there were safe and effective treatments for the c-word that were purposely pushed aside in favor of other treatments that were not already FDA-approved and seemingly aren't very effective or safe.
Sorry to get political in a post about music, but really, this shit shouldn't be political at all in the first place. People need to know when they've been lied to, and I feel pretty confident that I can at least mention this here on Hive without fear of being suspending or whatever else would happen to me on the Big Tech / Big Fascism sites. I'm so sick of them. I still do use YouTube, because a lot of content just isn't on better sites yet, but they'll keep finding things like 3Speak when YouTube keeps silencing them.
Go to work, Shark
And with that, it's time for me to head out for day three of my new job. I'm still not sure if this job is going to work out for me, but I'm going to give it at least a month probably. Right now is a weird time to be starting a new job because it's the holiday season here in the US, and that can skew things a little. Apparently, orders are down right now because of it, and it's normally more busy than what it seems like at the moment.
I don't really love the idea of working at all, but if I do work, I need to be busy pretty much all day long or I can't stand it. If you're busy, then it feels like you show up, do your thing, and it's time to head home before you even know it. There seems to be a lot of standing around at this new job I have. I'm not really into that. The hours aren't ideal to me, either. The last time I had a job (I quit in June), I worked from 6 am until 2:30 pm. That was great because I'd leave during daylight hours even in the dead of winter. Right now, it feels like the day is over by the time I leave work at 4:30 pm and get home around 5:00 pm.
This post is part of an ongoing series in which I document the songs which are in my head immediately upon waking. I've been making them for a long time now.
