After Life

As the elevator doors opened, Amelia Earhart stepped out into a dimly lit bar filled with the famous faces of history. She took an in-depth breath and altered her flying goggles before heading towards the bar.

“Evening, Amelia,” greeted Elvis Presley with a charming smile.

“Hi, Elvis,” she responded with a grin, feeling at ease in his presence.

“What can I get for you?” asked the King of Rock and Roll.

“A whisky, please,” she said, sitting beside him.

As Elvis poured her drink, a man with a thick German accent approached them.

“Excuse me, have either of you seen Adolf?” he asked, glancing around the room.

Amelia and Elvis exchanged a knowing look, silently agreeing that they would rather avoid Hitler if possible.

“I haven’t seen him,” replied Amelia with a forced smile.

Elvis nodded in agreement before quickly changing the subject.

“So, how’s the aviation business?” he asked, genuinely interested.

Amelia’s face lit up as she began to tell him about her latest flying adventures. As they chatted, a woman with striking red hair approached the bar.

“Hi there,” she said with a friendly smile. “I’m Lucille.”

“Amelia,” she replied, shaking her hand.

“Lucille Ball,” she introduced herself, sitting next to Amelia.

“Of course,” said Amelia, recognizing her immediately. “I’m a big fan of your show.”

Lucille beamed with pride before ordering a martini.

A man with a thick Southern drawl approached them as they sipped their drinks.

“Ladies,” he said with the tip of his cowboy hat. “Hank Williams, pleased to make your acquaintance.”

Amelia and Lucille introduced themselves, and Hank sat beside them.

“So, what brings you to The Afterlife?” asked Amelia, curious.

“Just passing through,” he replied with a shrug. “Desired to see what all the commotion was about.”

A tall, dark-haired man with piercing blue eyes approached the bar as they chatted.

“Good evening, ladies,” he said with a charming smile.

“Cary Grant,” whispered Lucille, starstruck.

Amelia couldn’t help but feel a flutter in her heart as he sat beside her.

“What can I get for you, Mr. Grant?” asked Elvis.

“A gin and tonic, please,” he replied, eyes locked onto Amelia’s.

As Elvis poured his drink, Amelia found herself feeling shy and nervous around the handsome movie star.

“So, what brings you to The Afterlife?” asked Lucille, breaking the tension.

“I’m just here for a little R&R,” he replied, smiling.

As they chatted, Amelia couldn’t help but feel a connection with him. They talked about their lives and dreams, and she became more drawn to him.

More famous faces arrived as the night wore on, and the bar filled with laughter and conversation. Amelia found herself feeling more and more at home in this strange, otherworldly place.

As she finished her drink, Cary leaned in close to her.

“Amelia, would you like to walk with me?” he asked softly.

Her heart racing, she nodded eagerly, and they headed toward the door. As they stepped out into the cool night air, he took her hand, and they walked into the darkness together, ready for whatever adventures The Afterlife had in store for them.

What an imaginative way to attend this week's promt, @shahinaubl! How we wish we could walk into that bar and see so many admiring people. We'd also run away from Adolf, of course. Thanks so much for the smile that came and stayed as we read your story. We appreciate your comments on other writers' stories.

Beautiful story for this Saturday of love to the rhythm of music.

Thank you for your lovely comment, @rinconpoetico7 Elvis was definitely a charming king, but who knows what could have happened if he had stayed with the girl. Glad you enjoyed the story and have a wonderful day!
