Take heart, I’ve got your back.

It’s that time of year again. Those last few days of the year. As the New Year approaches so many of us start thinking about those resolutions we’re going to greet the new year with. I decided to explore some quotes about New Years resolutions to see what they told me and give you some guidance.

Here are my findings. The thank yous are attributions.

You know those firm resolutions that get softer and softer as the minutes of the New Year tick away? A really good New Years resolution might last a week or so. It probably depends on when we decide to toss in the towel.

With a sigh of resignation, the thought crosses your mind, “I can’t believe it’s been a year since I didn’t become a better person, again.” (thank you Anon Y Mouse)

Take heart, you can make another resolution. Just phrase it better like, “I resolve that all my problems will last as long as my New Years resolutions.” There doesn’t that sound better and more achievable?

Travel in 2022

Well, maybe if you decide to take a trip to La La Land where you’re oblivious to any problems. There, that will work. (thank you Joey Adams)

Look at the progress we’re making. Already you’ve eliminated any need to become a better person and setup a travel itinerary. Since you’re headed to La La Land, no passport, vaccine, PCR or quarantine required. Life is indeed getting easier already.

The Drinking Issue

Many people decide that they need to do something about drinking alcohol. They know they like it too much and it’s really an unkindness to their bodies and sometimes to those around them.

How to fix that? AHAAA “Come, gentlemen, I hope we shall drink down all unkindness.” Perfect, get rid of the evidence and the problem. (thank you William Shakespeare) The hangover might be an issue.

We’ve dealt with your problems, travel, alcohol and eliminated any pressure to be a better person. Pressure to be a better person never works. And really, who decides you’re not already a great person?

The Better Person Challenge

Maybe that little voice inside you as you as elbow the old gal out of line and watch her slide down the icy hill. That little voice telling you to stop doing that might have a point.

I know, you’re really trying to be one of the “Many people looking forward to the New Year for a new start to old habits.” When you think about it, has it occurred to you that maybe you might need to look over your shoulder for Karma to arrive if you keep it up? Ever see anyone make friends with Karma when it arrives? (thank you to the Unknown)

Okay, for just a moment I’m hearing you falter. To consider you might need to do that better person thing. Toss it off my friend, toss it off and “May the New Year bring you the courage to break your resolutions early! My own plan is to swear off every kind of virtue so that I triumph even when I fail!”

See… I’m standing firmly with you. Well Aleister Crowley is since he said that. I wonder if he was a friend of Karma?

In a Pinch? Use These Guidelines

Okay, I can see you need some basic guidelines on how to make resolutions. It’s pretty clear to me that you’re fumbling around wanting to make them. Let’s try these:

• Be creative, make the same mistakes in different ways. Far more efficient.
• The best part of making resolutions is the breaking of said resolutions.
• Make resolutions when drunk so you’ll never remember them.
• Acknowledge no new year or new you. Be the same honest asshole at 12:01 that you were at 11:59
• Stand firm, you don’t want a resolution for the new year. You want to be the same asshole for another year.
• Don’t make a resolution to be more positive and less sarcastic. You’ll fuck that up in moments.

Okay that should do it. Clear as mud and ready to roll for 2022. Get right on that will you?

This advice has been for you.
I don’t have any resolutions to make.
I’m already perfect.
