Labor Day Weekend Activities - Caves, Floating, Fishing, Beach - All The Fun

avatar

Made one last push for fun before school started.

We didn't take a vacation but it kind of felt like it. We went a bit crazy and tried to do everything we could possibly do for a 4 day weekend. Long days of being out and about. I swear my kids did so much this summer they no long realize how lucky they are!!!

Friday

I took Friday off - not sure that was a great idea for my workload but I decided to roll the dice and make it 4 day weekend. It, like every other Friday this summer decided to rain.... ugh.

We didn't let that stop us so we hopped in the car and drove over an hour to a new cave, Eagle Cave.

It was a interesting cave. Not the biggest, and not the prettiest we have seen. It was unique, they actually let people camp inside overnight. Usually Boy/Girl scout groups but, they will have over 100 people in the cave. Thankfully the way the cave is layedout and the way the rooms are you dont get a lot of echo... I can imagine all the people snoring in a cave if there was a bad echo!!!

This cave is know for its onyx. here is the best photo I could take.

My phone does not do well in near darkness, who can blame it. It is only a phone afterall. These are the best shots I had where the lighting system in the cave gave it a good look.

Saturday - Garage Sale

Not much to say here...there was an all city garage sale so we tried to sell a whole bunch of stuff, and then donated the rest to the salvation army... So happy to have less stuff in the house. The kids also ran a lemonade stand, selling all my lemonade and candy bars.. They managed to make $41... I think I lost more than that!!

Sunday -

Sure - it was only 75.... and sure the water is cold as heck, but we decided to do one more float down the river for 3 hours. It is always fun, and you never know if you are going to get tipped over on some rapids but we managed it all safely yet again... I guess I can not have my phone in a water proof bag, as it kept over heating so I didnt get too many photos.

Monday

River - Fishing, Beach Life, Pulling the kids on Tubes

Same beach as we usually go to, same fire mound... grilling hot dogs and smores... doing some fishing. I managed to catch 3. 1 really nice sunfish... no photo of course. and this tiny bass and what looks like a mooneye... and amassive one at that. It swam away after this photo, but not sure it made it. Gill got hooked and it was struggling to breath on one side. Might have ended up some eagle food.

That is all we did

Not much, just kidding. Not sure how many miles I put on my truck. Everything was over an hour away, and its never good MPG pulling an 18 foot boat doing 65 down the highway for an hour+. It was a great way to end the summer and slide into the school year. Fam had a blast and now we are all back to reality of work and school - praying for good weather on the weekends to get out kayaking or hiking.

Thanks!!

It was a blast - but I was tired come Tuesday morning. I guess that is how you are supposed to live right, play hard all weekend and recover with coffee during the week?
