Hello, music lovers! 🎢

Where are you wandering? The year is ending, and Happy December is in full swing - music is everywhere!

I'm listening to #newtunes to put together the best possible selection, and I've been working on this year's Spotify playlist for a few days now. It's going to be quite long!

Here is a selection of eight new songs of different genres from this week that have stuck in my ears; maybe you'll like them, too.
But if you don't like something, skip it.

🎡 🎧 🎡

ANNA WOLF - Free

Anna Wolf is a young singer, songwriter, and musician from Pretoria, South Africa. She released one album, Romance Was Born, in 2021, which was nominated for Best South African Alternative/Indie Album.
I was unaware of her, but I was drawn to her amazing vocals on her new single, Free, which was released last week. Whether she will have another album remains to be seen, but I like this song.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Muriel Grossmann - Pointing Out Part I

Muriel Grossmann is an Austrian composer best known for her saxophone playing in various jazz ensembles worldwide. She has been doing this for two decades and is actively releasing solo albums, her 16th being The Light Of The Mind, out in two weeks.
In her songs, Muriel cultivates a relatively orthodox spiritual jazz that is very Coltrane, very Sandersian, and not too avant-garde. Discerning listeners may consider this unambitious, but I have nothing to criticize her for.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Fievel is Glauque - As Above So Below

Fievel Is Glauque is a duo from Brooklyn, New York, and occasionally Brussels. They have been on the music scene since 2018. The locations where they perform make us think that the band's sound is not simple but a combination of different influences, from pop to jazz.
Rong Weicknes is their seventh album, and the song As Above So Below is from it. It's a typical Brooklyn sound, always at the intersection of jazz, funk, soul, and gospel. It fuses these genres with indie rock and folk music elements, resulting in a conglomerate suitable for some long car rides, let's say.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Anna Erhard - Hot Family

Anna Erhard is a Swiss-born, Berlin-based composer and musician. She used to be a member of the folk band Serafyn but has been pursuing a solo career for the last few years. She has released three albums so far, the last one, Botanical Garden, at the end of September.
It's fun indie-pop, as is the song "Hot Family."

🎡 🎧 🎡

DEMENTED ARE GO - Black Valium

Demented Are Go is a psychobilly band from Cardiff, UK. They have been performing since 1982 and are considered by fans to have significantly influenced the development of the psychobilly scene with their blend of punk and rockabilly. They have released eight solo albums and often appear on various genre compilations.
They haven't released anything for twelve years, and the song/single Black Valium is a preview for a new album to be released next year. As a genre fan, I recommend this song and their oeuvre.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Paris Paloma - Hunter

Paris Paloma is a young musician and composer from London. It's a new name for me. She released her debut album, Cacophony, at the end of August this year.
Very likable and nostalgic vocals, the story and lyrics are always in the foreground in all the songs, and the indie-pop genre is more in the dimensions of the soundtrack.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Mercury Rev - There's Always Been A Bird In Me

Mercury Rev is an American rock band from Buffalo. They have been on the music scene since 1989 and play indie rock with elements of psychedelia more or less successfully. Music critics always compare them to The Flaming Lips, and there is probably some truth to that. Born Horses is their tenth album and, according to the critics, one of their best.
Of course, you won't have a transcendental listening experience and may even find it pathetic. However, the singer's deep recitatives and the sumptuous sonic tapestry are reason enough to calm down and listen to it repeatedly.

🎡 🎧 🎡

ORANSSI PAZUZU - Muuntautuja

And finally, Oranssi Pazuzu is a Finnish band playing since 2016. They have released five albums in eight years, and their latest, Muuntautu, at the end of October this year.
They say they play psychotic black metal, but I find it hard to classify them in one style. That "black" has disappeared somewhere, replaced by noise, experimental, and avant-garde electronica.
In the song of the same name as the album (the name can be translated as shapeshifter), they travel somewhere in the direction of turbo Nine Inch Nails, a sound of cosmic horror wrapped in a trip-hop beat, interwoven with a drum groove over which dark electronic effects float. Recommended!

🎢That's all for today, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!
